Vacant Stare have been around for years now as a little underground band. They have always pulled in the crowds and have got them singing along with classics such as 'come face up' and 'prognosis' (both have been re-recorded for the new album) The extra guitar now makes a louder sound than ever.

I have only one problem with this album, the classic 'w.m.f.m.s.' has been left off. The album is just as amazing as the live shows, so if you've been, then you'll love this album.

The artwork is also well worth the money, very cool cartoon inlay.

VACANT STARE...watch this space...these guys are going to be big. Also check out 36 Crazyfists and the new Skindred album 'Babylon'.

Ever since the release of their original three track demo, a lot of expectation has been heaped upon Vacant Stare, and the anticipation has been growing in their considerable absence. Its fair to say then that they've come good with their debut album, and the title of 'Vindication' is certainly not a misnomer. Fans of the demo will be pleased to see the inclusion of two tracks from the original demo, 'Come Face Up' and 'Prognosis', both of which still pack a brutal punch. However, throughout the remainder of the album, it becomes clear that VS's song writing has progressed in leaps and bounds , and whilst the heaviness that made them such a hit on the live circuit is retained, there is a lot more melody, not least in Manning's vocal efforts, and a lot more subtlety and skill in the scratching and sampling, all of which goes towards making a bigger and more accomplished sound for the band, which was also helped by their heavyweight team of three producers. Unfortunately the down side of this is that the old songs seem unstructured and clumsy in comparison to standout tracks like 'A Head Start' and 'Where I Stand', making for a slightly uneven listening experience. All in all though, a very worthwile purchase that shows that along with bands like LostProphets, Number One Son, Earthtone 9 and many many others, 'guitar Britain' is in very good shape indeed. Enjoy.

Fantastic 23 Mar 2002

Every track on this album's filled with melody and powerful guitar rifferey. I picked this album up when I saw them live. Tracks like 'Obscured', 'Come Face Up' and 'seeds of Unrest' show a more hardcore edge. this band must be heard to be believed!!! They are however a far supperior live band and almost match the intensity of a One Minute Silence concert!
