United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: 2-DVD Set, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: About a thirteen year old art student who is particularly inspired by Van Gogh and imitates his style in her work. While at an art summer school in Montreal, she is approached by a stranger who asks her to paint some farm animals. Later she discovers that a Japanese businessman has paid one million dollars for some "newly discovered childhood sketches" by Van Gogh... Following an investigation on a call-girl who drugs her clients to steal their belongings, the private eye helps protect a community centre run by a Catholic priest. After it is assailed by a gang of teenage hooligans and when the priest gets severely burnt when the building is subject to an arson attack, Vincent must use all of his powers of deduction to work out who is behind the violence. The PI hooks up with an former lover as he looks into a murder resembling the work of a serial killer. His instincts prompt him to delve deeper into the circumstances of the case when the suspect admits to all of the slayings but one : the latest murder. A single parent is terrorised by an unknown assailant and asks for Vincent's help. The PI tells Beth to pose as the family's nanny and must uncover a link to the past if he is to discover who the perpetrator is. ...Vincent - Series 2

BE WARNED . . . ! 28 Sep 2010
Format:DVD
A superb series, but . . . BE WARNED . . . running time is only 210 minutes, NOT the 999 minutes indicated above.

A few years old now, but this series was a muscular outing for Mr Winstone, with able support from the lovely Suranne Jones and former East Ender Joe Absolom.
Vincent is a private detective taking on some unusual cases, with twists and turns along the way. Shame it didn't run to another series, but I imagine all that animation business for Beowulf must have impacted on Ray's availability somewhat..

Carrying on pretty much from where series 1 left off ,we have 4 more feature length episodes concerning the Manchester based detective agency ran by Vincent Gallagher(Ray Winstone). In the first Vincent ends up in prison while his cohorts(Suranne Jones,Ian Purleston-Davies,Angel Coulby and Joe Absolom) try to unravel the death of a hotel chambermaid,in the second a slick businessman has his family threatened while bedding Suranne Jones at the same time, the third has them turning the tables on a female fraudster with unexpected results and the 4th guest starring Amanda Redman is.... completely off with the fairies.

Even more laughable than series 1 which considering episode 1 had me going for at least an hour thinking this is better- slightly more realistic.intense and even faintly plausible - the whole episode then crashes in on it's self going for superior stateside grit and missing by about the width of the North Atlantic.Suranne Jones' character goes bed hopping with a suspect in 2 without any mental or physical foreplay let alone narrative logic, episode 3 is just unpleasant and the final one smacks of the last episode in series 1 with buckets of implausibility(we are asked to believe that Amanda Redman runs a multi million pound security business when quite frankly she looks like she'd have trouble finding the keys to her merc) mounted on a sea of obvious twist after obvious twist.

Suranne Jones and Purleston-Davies try their best but with writing this wretched - how the heck the agency pays for itself is just one of many questions that remain unanswered - they have no chance.

Put this together with Series 1 and ITV if only they knew it, have their own Fawlty Towers.

Quite what the the other reviewers were watching i have no idea- it wasn't Vincent for sure.
