1.0 out of 5 stars It's a Comedy 30 Oct 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ex cop turned private investigator Vincent Gallagher(Ray Winstone)has his hands full coping with the emotional fallout from his failed relationship with Cathy(Eva Pope)and her subsequent entanglement with cop Driscoll (Philip Glenister)and managing his team of employees(Ian Purleston Davies and Suranne Jones among them)as they work through difficult matrimonial and murder cases.

Of the 4 episodes that comprise this series the first with Mark Warren guesting as an abusive husband is quite tense, the second painfully obvious, the third fairly dull and the fourth utterly hilarious and not in a good way.Ironically Winstone(a one trick pony if ever i saw one - his range stretches from bluff cor blimey mate to well bluff without the cor blimey)is not bad for him and Jones and Purleston Davies are as dependable as ever but the material is so woefully underwritten that you quickly end up "solving" the mystery well before is decent. There are just so many inconsistencies and implausabilities that the whole thing quickly becomes more of a comedy than a drama. In the final laughable episode Winstone must have sat down with the writer and trotted out every wish fulfillment fantasy he could think of and said right make a story out of that.

Utter nonsense from beginning to end.Mind you I'm buying Series 2 -funniest thing in years. And from ITV 1995- 2007 that's saying something.

With the actors and actresses starring in this Vincent was always going to be a hit, and Ray Winstone is brilliant in any role that he plays again another programme you can watch again and agains

Please see my review of Vincent Series One. Both are good English Who-Dunnits. Not quite Morse but very good none the less.
