Because this Brooklands Gold Portfolio contains contemporary articles spanning the complete post war Vincent motorcycle story, it gives an excellent insight into these amazing machines. The early articles are full of superlatives, some of the later articles become more critical of the perceived faults of the Vincent design. The most recent ones seem to have things in better perspective, looking at the Vincent as a classic design, and a machine that needs to be maintained and kept in top shape for it to give its best. This apparently was not the case with the Black Lightning that received such a bad review by Cycle World, as their opinion of the bike was scathing in the extreme, and the problems they describe seem to point to a suspension that, in spite of the supposedly low mileage, was not properly set up. This collection is excellent reading for the Vincent enthusiast.
