Book Description

19 Dec 2013 Villain School (Book 1)

Rune Drexler, Big Bad Wolf Jr., and Countess Jezebel Dracula are students at Master Dreadthorn's School for Wayward Villains. It's like military school for the children of famous villains; it's where you learn to be bad. But Rune is failing at his villainous studies, so when he lands himself in detention (again), Master Dreadthorn assigns him a Plot. In one week, Rune and his friends must find a henchman, steal a baby, kidnap a princess, and overthrow a kingdom. There's only one problem: Rune's not very evil. In fact, his behavior seems suspiciously heroic. . . .

This hilarious adventure stretches across a fairy tale world where the mistakes of famous villains become valuable lessons for our heroes-er, villains. The mix of familiar characters and a wholly original Plot will delight young readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely diggin' this one... 3 Nov 2011
By Love Story - Published on Amazon.com

Much to my surprise, this was actually a REALLY great read (I wasn't too sure at first given the title had the word "school" in it, ya' know?). Anyway, Rune makes a strong lead character (LOVE his sarcasm and humor), and he shares the stage with a pretty cool cast of enduring characters (wolves, sprites, ogres, kings, queens, Dracula... oh, my!) It's like a mush of fairy tales meets all-other-things-children's-classics with soft wisps of Arthurian legend and Potter thrown in. HOW TOTALLY COOL IS THAT? This is one of those books that is thoroughly enjoyed on its own, but if you pay attention, you can clearly see it setting the stage for future story plots. I'm hoping Sanders is planning on building a decent-sized series using these characters because she's definitely got a great foundation in which to carry something like that through. I'm not sure what the plans are, but I'm really hoping to see these characters grow and mature with time and have the plots deepen and mature right along with them (kinda' like Rowling did with Potter or Lewis did in the Narnia books). That would be AWESOME! Definitely looking forward to more...

5.0 out of 5 stars laugh out loud 13 Sep 2011
By Myztro - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I think I was still on page one when I started laughing and felt that the humor was placed perfectly throughout the story to keep up the fun. Not an overly complicated story but fast paced and I thought the idea of famous villain kids was a fun new concept that I'd never seen before. Honestly I think this would be a great read for both middle grade girls and boys.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read 11 Aug 2012
By Lisa - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I enjoyed this one. The school in question is for "wayward villains" -- kids who have done something good and embarrassed their truly villainous parents (Count Dracula and the Big Bad Wolf are among the parents). The characters are likable, and there is plenty of humor. The plot is predictable, but fast-paced and satisfying. I would happily recommend this book to 8- to 12-year-olds.

(Note: I received a free advance reading copy of this book from the publisher at a American Library Association Annual Conference. I was not required to write a positive review. Thank you, Bloomsbury!)
