The fourth and latest book by Jack Sheffield. I didn't think it was published until mid-January, but it arrived earlier than I thought on Christmas Eve. So, as my title suggests, my Christmas was all but lost by me immersing myself in this latest wonderful book from Jack.
I came across him quite by accident - his titles came up alongside those of fellow Yorkshireman, Gervase Phinn. I bought the first to see if I liked it and then I was smitten.
I think the easy read nature of the books, the wonderful idyllic village life, the diversity of the characters and the way it awakens memories of my growing up made it so readable - just little things like playing elastic in the school playground, the records on the juke box and the introduction of the walkman. One of the funniest bits was the men's shopping trip to Leeds. Jack writes in such a way, you feel you know the village and the people within it. I want to go to the Christmas service and the panto.
If you want an easy, enjoyable read, then this is the book to choose (after you've read the other three!). Can't wait for number five - get writing, Jack!
