You should master the French language very well to understand this book; for there are different French language levels (or better worlds of language) to take in. It contains an overwhelming story about two Algerian/German brothers of very different age confronted with the nazi past of their father and at the same time with islamist threats in Algeria in the 1990ies and in the suburbs of French cities. For me as a German woman of about 70 years it was a reading full of painful reminders of the past which already had empoisoned my youth and time and again my life. From time to time I had to put down the book, unable to continue. This is a masterpiece, but a very, very difficult one. Thank you, Mr Sansal!
