These boots will be worn while walking my two Jack Russels over the fields, up and down the hills round here and paddling in the river while they swim.
Over the past year and a half, I have owned a pair of Hunter Argyll wellies and two pairs of Aigle Parcours. The Hunter Argyll split after 3 months. The first Aigle Parcours split after one year. The second pair of Aigle developed a fault after one week. The quality and build of these did not, in my opinion, justify the cost.
Back to the Viking wellies. First impression is good. They are well made. They are sturdy and rigid. This appeals to me as I will be walking about three or four miles in them each time I wear them. They support the foot and ankle very well.
A molded insole with cushioning in the heel makes it comfortable for long walks. The inlay sole is removable for easy drying. This is very good and far more comfortable then either Hunter or Aigle. The insole seems to get more comfortable after wearing the boots for half an hour or so. Maybe the heat of the foot has something to do with that?
I find the adjustable gusset at the top of the boot of great benefit too. I have wide calves, so it's good to be able to widen the top of the boot to fit.
Grip is very good too. The sole has grip lugs over the whole surface - even the arch. I find this great while walking up and down the steep banks too and from the river.
On the manufacturers web site it says "this boot is designed for the most demanding users like hunters and herdsmen out in the mountains all day."
I'm only out for about 90 minutes at a time, so hopefully the boots will cope with that.Read more ›
