Product Description

Near the end of the 10th Century, Saxon King Aethelred entrusts his premier General Ealdoman Byrhtnoth with defending England's south eastern coastline. Byrhtnoth receives intelligence that a vast fleet of Viking longships led by Prince Olaf Tryggvasson of Norway, is attacking the Kent coastal towns of Folkestone and Sandwich. Byrhtnoth suspects Tryggvasson's fleet will sail home past the Essex ports of Colchester and Maldon, being unable to resist the lure of the royal mint's silver in theses towns' castles. The Ealdoman summons the Great Fyrd to defend them.
Despite huge status disparities, Princess Catherine has developed a rapport with Eddie, her Romani mercenary bodyguard. Eddie's recent miraculous escape from the homicidal maniac Tryggvasson, makes him apprehensive that Maldon's Saxons can successfully defend themselves against the Viking monster's massive army. Consequently Eddie will need prodigious guile to protect his princess from the enigma of spectral Druids and a looming Viking holocaust...

5.0 out of 5 stars Vikings! Saxon Holocaust 5 Dec 2011
I didn't expect this author to keep up the high standard of excitement that he got from Viking Sword Saxon Shield !(Viking Sword Saxon Shield) but he has done so brilliantly. Vikings Saxon Holocaust after a chapters sojourn into the historical battles in Kent continues the adventures of Eddie and Princess Catherine, Kate from where the first book left off. This is one of the best historical thrillers I have read. The pace of the first novel in the series was relentless; this second book is even more potent. I was already conversant with the main hero's and villains but Scrivener is able to introduce new characters all the way through the novel that gel seamlessly with the originals. I thought Viking Sword Saxon Shield was a must read and this follow up is even better. Then what an unusual ending, fabulous

1.0 out of 5 stars Purile and childish 14 Jun 2012
Having read the first book and started this one out of curiosity, I feel sorry for the following people:

1) The cover models who have been dragged onto the cover again, presumably against their will and in the fervent and sure hope that their friends will never see it on the shelf of a local bookstore.

2) The author who is clearly passionate about his local area and wants to write but doesn't have the tools to do so.

3) Those people who feel that this is a 5 Star book who clearly have never read a genuinely good book in their lives.

In all seriousness, it is a little (very little) bit better than the first, but it is still childishly written. It is a unprecedented audacity to ask for money for this. My 11 year old daughter has written better.

5.0 out of 5 stars The next in the series 1 Dec 2011
By Lucy Perring - Published on Amazon.com
This is a continuation of the story started in Viking Sword Saxon Shieldand follows along with the same gusto and historical aspects. It is very well researched and the details helps to bring the book to life. The story continues the journeys begun in the first book, returning us to General Ealdoman Byrhtnoth, Princess Catherine and Eddie. His quest, involving magic and myth is wonderful and the dastardly Vikings are all too real and horrific.
I notice that is book is being sold under the young adult category, and I feel that is fair. However, I believe adults will enjoy this just as they enjoy other young adult authors. It does not offend and it educates, it is gently romantic and vivid. The author's obvious passion makes it a joy to read.
