Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The task of stopping Hel and defending the future of mankind falls to Skarin a promising but deeply flawed young warrior, ignorant of the true reason for his favor with the Gods...

Skarin is an uncompromising force, a play-thing of the Gods rebelling against their selfish agenda in a whirlwind clash of flash and steel set against the back-drop of a rich Viking culture and mythology.

Percussive moment of impact combat, savage and brutal, Vikings combat is a range fuelled meat grinder directed by the player; fusing over-the-top dismemberment with disturbing realism by displaying the gore-soaked real nature of close combat in detail. Transitions in real time from small scale skirmishes to mass battles, become on amongst many and turn the tide in favour of your kinsman.

Fun:
I quite enjoyed this game at first; it was repetitive, but I enjoyed the whole violence thing after a hard day in the office. A few times when I was playing it, the game froze; I didn't think anything of it, until I got to the first big battle. I've now tried three times to play this section, but every time the console has crashed in the first few minutes. It's incredibly irritating.

I've given it two stars because, despite really annoying me by crashing, I enjoyed the mindlessness of this game. There's nothing much to think about, apart from running about hacking at orc-type creatures. OK, so it's not demanding, but sometimes that's fun. I quite enjoyed the gory finishing moves, although by the time one of the goblin-y creatures can be beheaded, hacked in half or similar, they're about to die anyway.

I quite liked it that the goblin things kept chickens and drank wine in their goblin fortress thing. It made them seem a bit more civilised than the Vikings, who seemed to spend their time being trapped in unfeasibly delicate wooden cages or drinking mead. Which reminds me; the tasks were often pretty daft. About 20 Vikings who have just had their workplace invaded and been imprisoned need your character to go and get something or kill someone before they'll help you fight the evil types, even though a) it's in their own interests to help you, particularly since doing so would lessen the chance of them being imprisoned again and b) it would make more sense of a whole group of them acted together to do whatever it is that needs done, rather than making you go on your own. It's a shame you couldn't play for Hel's legions and beat up the lazy Vikings!

A few other sections could have used a bit more work (from what I've seen of the game). The power ups you can buy from the shop are pretty rubbish, so you end up collecting loads of gold but don't have anything worthwhile to spend it on. Similarly, the moves you can buy are largely pointless; you don't really need fancy combos and can happily just bash away at the x and square buttons.

If you fancy some brain-free hack and slash gore action and don't mind that the game crashes and lags so often it can become unplayable, then you'll probably enjoy this. But I'd avoid it and am about to trade in my copy after less than a week, which is unheard of for me.

Fun:
Just finished this games yesterday, and I had a lot of fun with it. One of the few games where I wanted to pick it up any free time I had to do the next stage. Good points are good story (with the great BRIAN BLESSED shouting as always!), good graphics, amazing variety of gory kills and some nice cut scenes. However a couple things let it down, the lack of variety and the length of the game, probably completed it in less than 20 hours. However very enjoyable, and definately recommended at the lower price!

EPIC GAME!!! 21 Feb 2012
Fun:
This game is beyond epic. I bought this a year or two ago and I'm still going on it. There's little to say without spoiling the unexpected surprises. If you love your hack 'n' slashes, pretend to be the characters as the battle and love armies clashing together in battle then this is surely the game for you!!!
