A Spy without a Country

Simon Weston grew up royal in a place where aristocracy still mattered. Serving Queen and country meant everything to him, until MI6 marked him as damaged goods and he left his home in disgrace. Ian Taggart showed him a better way to serve his fellow man and introduced him to Sanctum, a place to pursue his passion for Dominance and submission. Topping beautiful subs was a lovely distraction until he met Chelsea, and becoming her Master turned into Simon’s most important mission.

A Woman without Hope

Chelsea Dennis grew up a pawn to the Russian mob. Her father’s violent lessons taught her that monsters lurked inside every man and they should never be trusted. Hiding in the shadows, she became something that even the monsters would fear—an information broker who exposed their dirty secrets and toppled their empires. Everything changed when Simon Weston crossed her path. Valiant and faithful, he was everything she needed—and a risk she couldn’t afford to take.

A Force too Strong to Resist

When dark forces from her past threaten her newfound family at Sanctum, Chelsea must turn to Simon, the one man she can trust with her darkest secrets. Their only chance to survive lies in a mystery even Chelsea has been unable to solve. As they race to uncover the truth and stay one step ahead of the assassins on their heels, they will discover a love too powerful to deny. But to stop a killer, Simon just might have to sacrifice himself…

4.0 out of 5 stars Simon is my James Bond 22 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved the previously books in the Masters and Mercenaries series so once I saw this on Amazon, I pre-ordered it. Then as if by magic, the kindle fairy delivered this on the release date and I gobbled it up straight away.
I'd really been looking forward to this book as Simon was the epitome of a suave, sophisticated, aristocratic spy in my mind. All the books have a James Bond related title and if any of the characters remind me of Bond, it's Simon. He will maim and kill in the line of duty and then straighten his tie and dust off his suit as if nothing happened. His go bag has the necessaries for his line of work, new identity, cash, ammo, but he also includes a tailored suit. He is underestimated by many, they think he's a toff, a spoilt brat distantly in line to the throne but he proves himself a force to be reckoned with; don't be fooled by his noble and gentlemanly exterior.
Chelsea lets her past define her, which we all do to some extent, but it's made her bitter, twisted and not realising her own worth. She needs to feel powerful and useful and since she no longer works as The Broker, she is lost. She is considerably naive despite being a criminal cyber mastermind. She can be a bit annoying at times as she knows what she is saying will anger Simon, it's like prodding a bear with a stick. She provokes him and then is unhappy with his response.
Tag was as stroopy and amusing as always, I have a soft spot for him.
This is a funny, raunchy, lightly BDSM, spy love story and I loved it. Bring on Jess and Phoebe's story.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2.5-3 stars 4 Sep 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Hmmmm, lots of angst and self-doubt-martyr type behaviour from both MCs, mainly Chelsea. It kinda got to me after a while, with the heroine frequently saying she wasnt good enough for him or that she couldnt be who he wants her to be, and then the hero - Simon, thinking she didnt want him and she only saw him as a curiosity. I wanted Ian Taggart to bash their heads together.

There was lots of the espionage stuff, with long-winded scenes that confused me, especially when there was more than two people talking. I couldnt keep up with who was who and who was saying what.

Some kink in there, but, ahem....not as much as I would have liked *wink*

5.0 out of 5 stars Her best yet! 14 Sep 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What an absolutely amazing read, I really think this is Lexi Blake's best yet. Ian was always my favourite, but it may well be Simon after this book :)

You definitely need to have read the previous books with this one. Chelsea's journey was such a long one, and I've done a complete 360 on her- the character development is superb.

There are very few authors whose books I buy the day of release, but Lexi Blake is one of those. Wish I could have given this more than 5 stars as it was simply amazing.

First things first - I really enjoyed this book, it's a great next in the series. Good characters, good dialogue, decently fast paced. The one thing that really gets me down and the reason this didn't get five stars is the lack of research. Please, please check the difference between the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs and the story behind the 'sighs' and it has nothing to do with lovers!!!.
But as I said I really enjoy the books and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cliffhanger?!?! The suspense is killing me... 12 Sep 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Words alone are insufficient in descibing how much I thoroughly enjoyed "A View to a Thrill". Set in London, the piece was so close to home, and the story was one of a kind! I hate cliffhangers but this novel is certainly worth it. This penultimate piece is the perfect build up to Phoebe and Jesse's story (preordered) i'm certainly looking forward to the next piece of the Masters and Mercenaries collection, one of many guilty pleasures...

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional! 26 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Exceptional work from Lexie as always. I loved that Simon was a Brit and that Chelsea wasn't perfect. The storyline was great and I found myself thinking where the hell does she dream up all this, at one point lol. And the humour was witty and dry, I love Ian when he goes off on one. I look forward to Jesse's story.

Have patiently waited for this book and again I have not been disappointed. Loved Chelsea and Simon's story. As usual fast paced and gripping, love the unexpected twists. Can not wait until Jesse & Phoebe's story and as always love catching up on all the other members of the team. Roll on Feb 2014
