Product Description

This book brings together for the first time the amusing, poignant and often whimsical writings of that loveable old duffer, Dr Ken B Moody. Dr Moody, a GP in the beautiful Scottish Borders, writes of his experiences in a regular column in local newspapers.

He kindly agreed for his friend and confidant, David Carvel, to select and assemble the best of these articles for a wider readership. This volume contains a greater mixture of anecdotes and medical cases than a dispensary full of pills.

It is hoped that they do not leave you, the reader, feeling light-headed, nauseated or having an urgent need to visit the lavatory. Rather, they may be just the tonic you need.

Like medication, it is suggested that these articles are not all consumed in one go; instead it is respectfully advised that the reader returns at specified intervals for measured and therapeutic doses.

View from the Surgery
Dr Ken B Moody reminds us of a time in the past when life was more straightforward, more easily dealt with and more gentle. A time when the country doctor would cure all his patients' ills, sometimes with medicine but more often with a simple truth. Spoken well, always gentle and rarely moody.
This book is an excellent collection of infectious and entertaining stories of a retiring country GP. Not focusing on the fussy medical details but reflecting on the laughter in all our lives.

Caring and common sense in a world gone mad with political correctness and a lack of personal responsibilty for our own health and being. There is hope!

The narrative lulls you into a nostalgia for an old-fashioned family doctor, yet the issues are 21st century. He manages a therapeutic mixture of compassion and humour.A gem of a book.

Sorry Ken but I didn't enjoy your book; I guess it's not intended for doctors, bit like James Herriot wasn't aimed for vets - it looks like you seem to have pleased the majority of... Read more

No view at all
Not as funny as expected. Disjointed, just a series of articles published in a book. Would not list this book under humour.

Disappointed
I read the reviews for this book and looked forward to reading it. However I am very disppointed - it was supposed to be funny but isn't and I did not keep me turning the pages. Read more

As sharp as a scalpel and comforting as Calpol: an excellent read.
If we had more Dr. Moodys fronting the NHS we may not be more healthy as a nation but be would feel reassured, loved and that we were in very capable hands indeed.

Here's a silly question - have you ever been to the doctor's? I bet you've sometimes wondered what the doctor's life is like from their point of observation. Read more
