America was a light folk-rock act of the early '70s who had several Top Ten hits, including the number ones "A Horse with No Name" and "Sister Golden Hair." Vocalists/guitarists Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley met while they were still in high school in the late '60s; all three were sons of U.S. Air Force officers who were stationed in the U.K. After they ... Product Description

America's third and fourth early 80s albums for Capitol Records. Both albums were produced by acclaimed UK songwriter Russ Ballard. 'View From The Ground' features a host of musicians from Toto to Carl Wilson whilst 'Your Move' basically just features the band. America are still touring as a duo, and recently completed a UK tour. Remastered and slipcased, and with extensive new notes.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice set 2 Feb 2008
By A Fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
View From The Ground was one of their best albums as a duo (after Dan Peek left). They strike the right balance between their own material and that of outside writers. This was their comeback album in 1982 and produced one top ten hit (You Can Do Magic) and one minor hit (Right Before Your Eyes) which just missed the Top 40. The only song on it that I did not care for was Even The Score. The rest of the material is very good.

Your Move had too much Ballard and not enough America. I guess after the success of the Russ Ballard written "You Can Do Magic" the previous year, they figured if a little Ballard is a good thing, more Ballard would be even better! They were wrong. This is one of their weaker albums. America (Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell) only wrote or co-wrote 4 of the songs while the bulk are Ballard songs. It does contain some good songs including their last top 40 hit, "The Border" from 1983, and I also like "Tonight is for Dreamers" and "She's a Runaway." But as a whole, this was a letdown after their excellent "View from the Ground" album.

The sound quality of this release is not as good as previous releases.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Sound Quality 24 Nov 2007
By H. T. Nguyen - Published on Amazon.com

I picked this up because these albums are so hard to find on CD these days. I popped it in and was dismayed with how poor they sounded. Usually when a disc is remastered they tend to be loud and dynamically compressed, but usually make up for it with relative sonic clarity. This doesn't even give you that. The background hiss is still present and it sounds like listening to a cassette tape or an old vinyl copy. Pass this one up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Improved Sound Quality! 1 Mar 2008
By Max Thompson - Published on Amazon.com

I have both of these on the original CD release, but since they are old transfers they sound dead! The new disc has greatly increased sound quality because it is remastered, and this makes all the tracks much more enjoyable to listen too. Newcomers that maybe heard some of these on the radio or had the albums on vinyl, will be pleased with this purchase and really like the disc.

Many old fans of America wrote these albums off because of a more pop approach to production, but there are some real gems here that would fit right in on some of the older albums and flow. The originals written by Gerry and Dewey are fantastic, and must haves for anyone that loved their sound. If you want to get a feel good vibe going in the car or home, that brings back a lighter heart, this is a great choice. Lucky for us fans America has an international fan base which makes it possible to bring back great work like this remastered for us to purchase.

I would also check out the combo disc of Silent Letter/Alibi as it is a real keeper and must have.
