This DVD is a hidden gem and not normally found amidst the Mozart collections in the High Street stores. It will appeal to all lovers of Mozart and not just aficionados of the Vienna Boys' Choir. It is a live recording from St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna of a concert which was part of the "24 hours" of Mozart's works which was the central feature of the 250th anniversary of his birth. You get what it says on the label---A Mozart Celebration---and who better to sing this than the Vienna Boys' Choir which, in it's history, performed for the composer himself. The choir is joined by the singers Sandrine Piau (soprano), Dietmar Kerschbaum (tenor) and Wolfgang Bankl (bass) and the Chorus Viennensis along with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra directed by Claus Viller. The central feature of this gala concert is the renowned "Coronation Mass". The soprano and alto solo parts are sung by choristers. The soprano does not have such a full voice as others that I have heard singing this but he is technically excellent and his projection is adequate. I can certainly recommend this DVD

Definitely an asset to any DVD library. The performances by both the male choir and the Sangerknaben are flawless and refreshing to watch and listen. In addition, the biography of Mozart is interesting and to witness his musical talent is really a blessing. Sad that he died as a young man.

But many pieces included were only excerpts from longer pieces. I prefer complete selections. It is easier to listen the soprano than to watch her.
