This is a highly detailed and useful handbook for video production, which tells you really all you would need to know as a non-professional film maker, aside from exactly how your software and particular camera work. Given that there are lots and lots of books about still photography, and fewer about video production, this really is as good as the best still photography books, up there with Langford's Basic Photography as hugely informative to the beginner, but containing enough information to be a constant source of reference for years to come.
If you've spent upwards of £2,000 on the camera, microphone and editing software, then this really is a very economical way to upgrade your overall skills.

This book has plenty of info and good illustrations. However, it reads like a textbook. So while the content is interesting, I cannot read past a page without getting bored. I imagine I will end up using this book more as a reference. I have also read Better Location Shooting: Techniques for Shooting Video: Techniques for Video Production by Paul Martingell which had similar content in places, but in contrast was very easy to read.

great easy to read and above all informative - if your looking for a video production 'bible' this is it - i cant fault it, easy to read, clear pictures and set at the right level for students.
