This is one of the few Lan Del Rey songs that works without video...well for me at least. I have to confess to being somewhat fascinated by her, and more so after reading her biog. I've watched numerous videos of her performing, mostly produced videos, which are all very entertaining, and a few live, not so entertaining. She is a curious character, surrounded by lots of hype and a lot of clever marketing. Nonetheless, when she isn't singing like a 12 year old child (grates on me) her voice is deliciously haunting, and this is especially true of her voice in this song. I don't know whether I'd ever buy her albums to be honest, but as I got a £1 credit for downloading MP3s from Amazon I thought I'd use it to grab the song that brought Ms Rey to my attention and maybe even that of the World.

Every now and then the indie radio station where I live will air a song that sends me immediately to SoundHound (or Shazam) because I have to know *right now* who the artist is and the name of the song.

This is one of those songs. From the dirge-like opening with a pealing bell at the start to the unfolding narrative describing both surrender and despair in relationship, this is a song that sticks with you at the start and invites frequent re-listens.

Great song from a fantastic young voice.

As a studio engineer I like to listen to a lot of music and make a point of scrutinizing songs that have won Ivor Novello awards, hence the purchase of this.
