Sleek, silver and very simple to use, the DVP860 is a good DVD player at a good price.
For a DVD player that does so much, the DVP860 is very easy to set up and use; plug the supplied SCART cable into the back of your TV and you're ready to go. Alternatively you can connect to your TV via S-Video and to an analogue or digital amplifier, and if you don't have multiple speakers you can fake surround sound with the 3-D sound effect.
Only the basic controls are on the front of the player, along with a very clear the colour display, but the silver remote has a wide range of controls. You're not likely to lose it either, as the main buttons glow in the dark! As well as the usual options for playback, there are buttons to jump straight to a particular chapter or even to a specific time without having to go back to the main menu and you can change the soundtrack language, turn on subtitles, swap from stereo to surround sound, or zoom in on the picture while you're watching a DVD, without going back to the main setup controls. The on-screen controls are clear and simple and the picture is excellent; although the sound is a little quieter than some players, it's clear and bright, especially when you're playing music.
As well as standard DVDs, the DVP860 plays Video CDs, Audio CDs and MP3 files on CD-R or CD-RW; it creates a menu for Video and MP3 CDs while Audio CDs just start playing--although you can create a programme. The combined features and the straightforward controls make the DVP860 excellent value for money. --Mary Branscombe

GOOD STUFF,

This is a good player. I am not going to get all technical, as i do not know how, so i will tell it as it is: Easy to use remote control, easy to set up the player. Crisp picture. Sound is quite quiet, but good quality- especially with CDs/Mp3s. The reason it did not get 5 * is because i was sent a faulty one originally (did not read the dvds),and because it an sometimes stops while the dvd is playing (don't know if this is the player or DVD). Great zoom, really quick fast/rewind and good smooth slow-mo. Great fun to play about with. Very good value. Would make a good family dvd player.

I love this item Great picture quality , as one would expect from DVD . Its also great that it can deal with so many different formats . From CDR's which I have recorded myself ...to MP3 ,so its very versatile. Also sleek silver design means it looks great. The only complaint I have is that the remote control seems very weak . From day 1 I had to click the buttons aggressively to get a response . My friends reckon it has more to do with the cheap batteries that came with the pack . I hope it improves when I pop in duracell ...but I havent tried it yet. well thast why I've graded it 4 * ...it might have been 5.
