I took a long time deciding before I chose this watch - I really fancied a black face but when this arrived I was seriously impressed. It is incredibly clear to read and so much better than I expected - of special note is the almost seamless dove-tailing of the sapphire crystal face with the flat bezel that really looks much smarter than the pictures suggest. It is sometimes called the 'Ambassador' and it would not look out of place in such a setting. It is of course now a deleted item from the Victorinox catalogue and one of the few remaining wholly manual watches I could find with a genuine Swiss movement(and at £200 massively cheaper than any alternative of similar quality). I'm guessing that it was originally aimed at the US market where most of the still available stock seems to be sourced (I have absolutely no complaints about my supplier - arrived in perfect condition in 3 working days after ordering along with the US 3-year warranty card [not valid in Europe but nice to have], instruction manual and incredible box). Although I have a fairly small wrist it doesn't look overpowering (probably due to its stainless steel/white colouring). It is heavy and I suggest you remove only those links that make it feel comfortable (I can put a finger between the bottom of my wrist and the strap) rather than a snug fit - I originally opted for the latter and as soon as I spent an evening in with the fire on, my wrist expanded and it began to feel really tight - so I had a half-link put back on and now it's great. If you are not used to a manual watch make sure that you wind it fully at the start as it's easy to make a mistake and have the watch stop after 24 hours if you are not careful - it has been easy getting into the habit of winding it up first thing every morning.Read more ›

This is a really nice - top quality - watch! Pure nostalgic to wind it up every 2. day - and sounds as every watch should sound.... tic, tic, tic...

I received this watch as a Christmas gift after dropping several hints.

I am still in awe of how much watch you get for this money and I can only assume there are enough customers out there that are unaware of the Victorinox brand or do not like the association with pocket knives, cutlery, fragrances or travel bags etc. Whatever causes a watch like this to drop by so much after it is discontinued, is a mystery to me and I consider myself very lucky to have been gifted such a fine piece.

Additionally, I assume that there aren't too many customers out there aware of what a fine movement the Unitas/ETA 6498-1 is.

I now have three silver faced watches and I was actually after a black or blue face this time. Regardless, this was too good a deal to refuse and consequently it will be the Christopher Ward C20 Lido that gets sold to make way for this new addition.
Until very recently, a few days before Christmas, a well known, respected UK jeweller was selling this watch at £890, but has now dropped it to £445, half price.

The watch is well constructed of quality parts that far exceed this current price point. The blue of the second hand dial is much darker than the photo, more a Royal blue and the second hand is a brighter blue. This watch is quite startling in bright outside conditions with the mirror effect of the numerals and the full sized hands.

The brushed steel is top quality all round and the bezel is much more attractive than the photo suggests. I am a big fan of the Clous de Paris design on the crown and this really sets off this good looking timepiece. Edit: The more I look at other bracelets I realise what a cracking bracelet this watch has. It knocks spots off the Airboss Mach 4 bracelet, a piece I acquired recently.

This was a gift for my 50th,most the watches I liked were out of my price range,I actually loved this watch when it arrived and for the price tag of only £199 a genuine bargain, When I first got it it seemed to keep reasonably good time, it wasn't loosing enough time for me to keep check on it, however it is now loosing over 10 minutes a day, which for a quality branded watch with an advertised price of £850 is shocking, I have only had it 18 months.
The numbers on the bevil do seem to be in the wrong order which may explain the price cut but thats no biggy.

Having received this watch a couple of days ago I'm very impressed with the quality feel. Its a very attractive, quite large watch. Having said that, I've got relatively small wrists and it looks great. The only thing is that the numbers 15 and 45 seem to be reversed on the bezel (see above photo). I'm not sure if this is a manufacturing error or how it's meant to be? All photo's of the watch online, and also in the instruction manual have this so perhaps it's deliberate. HOWEVER this is a small detail. This watch is a steal for the price it's being sold at, to get a swiss mechanical movement at this price point is great. I heartily recommend.

This is an amazing watch of a very high quality. The price was amazing at £269 marked down from £890. The bezel numbering is back to front but this is not a problem as you can use it as a countdown timer. The watch is X-large as described so check it is suitable for your wrist size!
