Product Description

Victorinox Outrider Swiss Army Knife (Red) 09023 VICOUTR

A Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is a combination of solid hand tool and inventive creativity. A characteristic feature of the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife is its multi-functionality, which makes it indispensible for many of life's situations. All Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are made from first class stainless steel and are guaranteed against any defects in material and workmanship.

The Outrider Swiss Army Knife has a large locking blade, a corkscrew, a can opener with a small 3 mm screwdriver, a bottle opener with an automatic locking screwdriver and wire stripper, a reamer/punch tool, a keyring, tweezers, a toothpick and a woodsaw.

These locking knives are extremely robust and lightweight, and are specially developed for the police, fire service and army. The lockable screwdriver is particularly sturdy and well-suited to opening containers etc. The corkscrew is also suitable for loosening knots and storing the mini screwdriver.

Size: 111 mm /4.3/8in long.

Colour: red.

The outrider is one of Victorinox's older style of locking knives. It has a grey sliding switch used to (un)lock the blade instead of a thicker piece sprung metal acting as a liner-lock in the newer versions such as the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Forester - Black. However, while it doesn't look as secure, the lock should suffice for most tasks. Note that it is the only locking tool in the entire multi-tool (unlike a larger Leatherman multi-tool for example)

This slight shortcoming aside, the Outrider has more tools, namely a saw, small Philips screwdriver and scissors. The knife is under 3 inches long and very sharp and all the other tools are of typical Victorinox high quality.

However, I have a 3 small gripes
1) the Philips screwdriver is quite small and unsuitable for larger screws
2) in order to access the screwdriver, the scissors must but pulled out
3) it lacks a smaller blade like those found in non-locking Swiss Army Knives, used for small detailed work

Overall, the knife is very good in terms of weight size and number of tools. It's only slightly (about 4mm) thicker than the Forester yet packs more useful tools. The tools themselves all swing out easily and snap reassuringly in place. The handle is also nicer to grip than the classic style SAK's. All in all, a recommended buy.

I've been breaking pocket knives and tools since I was a child and finally Victorinox have produced an almost perfect pocket knife, I say almost perfect because there are a few things that could be altered but mostly it's pretty good, (albeit a bit bulky but the mathematics are inescapable). At long last the main blade locks, (I'd prefer a liner lock but I guess you can't have everything), unfortunately there is no small blade, (which often is the one that does the fine work), the scissors, as always are PERFECT! (The best there are are), the saw is really excellent as is the bradawl. It's a long time since I've used a bottle opener of this type but I'm sure it works as well as it used to. The other tools, screwdrivers, can opener are, as always excellent, the tweezers are, as usual, useless, as is the toothpick, (I don't really want to put this in my mouth after it's been rolling around in my back pocket). Overall I'd rate this as 9 out of 10, which beats everything else apart from the Leatherman Wave, (and these two tools have different aims), with both you'd be equipped for just about everything the world can throw at you, just don't fall into any deep water if you're carrying both as you might have trouble climbing out!

Bought this from Amazon recently mainly on the reviews and price, and i wasnt dissapointed at all.
It is a completely different take on the old S.A.knives with its nylon shaped grips and bigger blades. Also featuring a very handy, easy to use blade/tool locking feature. That being said,it still has the same excellent build quality one has come to expect from these iconic Victorianox knives.
I would say in conclusion, that this is definitely a very usefull addition to the stable of S.A knives already on the market.I believe its aimed more in my opinion though at the true outdoorsman rather than just your average joes pocket knife.

One of the things I love the most about this piece is the locking mechanism. This blade is designed for camping purposes and in my opinion a camping purpose means it should have a safety mechanism so the tool doesn't become the enemy. Furthermore another thing I liked was the strong slip joints of the knife. It's very durable and sturdy. There are few problems except the scissors may be a little hard to find, (especially in the dark but not so if you knows your knife well). The only thing I didn't like was the Philip screwdriver's opening part and the scissor's sharp blade, please handle the blade with good care since the reviewer received cuts to the hand due to improper handling of the folded edge.

Took my Swiss Champ to sweden - grat knife - didn't use all the tools and quite heavy - so worked out what tools I needed - especially a locking blade and came up with this - and it's lighter to boot - super build quality, sharp as you like, the scissors are superb - what do you expect it's a Victorinox. Do buy a pouch to ptortect it. Excellent top marks
