Some will say I've been definitely getting a bit Victor Meldrew/Jeremy Clarkson of late. One of my targets for chastising has been the bread knife in the knife block set. It looks nice, matches the set and sort of functions but...like so many bread knives I've owned in the past when it comes to using it, it's an epic fail. The inability to cut a thin slice. The mass of crumbs produced. The frightening ummmm, slice(?) that I manage to come up with when the bread is super fresh. And so I finally did something about it. With a budget of £50 I went hunting in town since I didn't want to buy this sort of item online.

Having spent some time being gobsmacked by the serious weaponry that we're free to buy and take out into the high street, I eventually went for this Victorinox, who I thought just made the Swiss Army knife. Turns out it's actually a pastry knife but what that means i have no idea. On bread though, I'm on cloud 9! Crumbless, majestic art I can now produce. Better than the machine supermarkets produce and I get to choose my width. 155 grams with a grippy and comfortable 'Fibrox' handle. It is a little longer than what I would call a standard bread knife therefore it doesn't fit in my existing knife block. Given that it is very sharp, I will have to invest in some form of shealth sine I doesn't come with anything.

Yes, it's more expensive than the knife you can buy in the home section of any supermarket but given the grief it saves, it's worth its weight in Rhodium!

I have always used these knives in restaurant kitchens. They are great for cutting meats, fish, veg, bread, whatever you want! Any Chef will agree. Very sharp serrated blade which holds its edge. Can't go wrong for under £20! Highly recommend this knife. Just watch your fingers!!!

I had no idea it was possible to slice homemade bread without making a single crumb. With absolutely no pressure this unbelievable blade creates slices with a silky-smooth finish, even with bread that's just out of the oven. Worth three times the price. (No idea why you'd need a knife this sharp for pastry though....)
