The Vicks Gentle Touch Behind Ear thermometer uses a novel heat flow technique to measure the temperature of the blood carotid artery which runs behind the ear, this is the best external place to take the temperature because the carotid artery takes blood to the brain and hypothalamus (the temperature-regulating gland) and so accurately reflects core body temperature.
“Having a sick child is stressful for any parent, so carers need to be able to take a child’s temperature quickly, accurately and in a non-invasive way,” said Emanuela D’Aloisio, Brand Manager Healthcare at Kaz Europe SA which manufactures Vicks thermometers in Europe under license to the Vicks trademark.
Featuring a large colour-changing display The Vicks Gentle Touch thermometer is equipped with Fever InSight technology which uses a traffic light colour-coded system to display body temperature. This unique feature helps parents to know when things are getting better or worse at a glance and helps turn temperature measurement into a more stress-free and fun experience.
The screen remains green if no fever is present, turns yellow if temperature is slightly elevated and red if the child has a fever (over 38 degrees Celsius). This colour-changing display also acts as a backlight for night-time temperature readings. As the thermometer only touches the skin behind the ear the risk of cross contamination is virtually eliminated and no lens filters are needed as the ring touching the skin is washable.
The Vicks Gentle Touch has a multiple memory function which can store up to eight temperature readings and the device comes with a two-year warranty.
