Book Description

A girl's got to do what a girl's got to do....

Being a witch doesn't pay the bills, but Persephone Alcmedi gets by between reading Tarot cards, writing her syndicated newspaper column, and kenneling werewolves in the basement when the moon is full -- even if witches aren't supposed to mingle with wolves. She really reaches the end of her leash, though, when her grandmother gets kicked out of the nursing home and Seph finds herself in the doghouse about some things she's written. Then her werewolf friend Lorrie is murdered...and the high priestess of an important coven offers Seph big money to destroy the killer, a powerful vampire named Goliath Kline. Seph is a tough girl, but this time she bites off more than she can chew. She needs a little help from her friends -- werewolf friends. One of those friends, Johnny, the motorcycle-riding lead singer for the techno-metal-Goth band Lycanthropia, has a crush on her. And while Seph has always been on edge around this 6'2" leather-clad hunk, she's starting to realize that although their attraction may be dangerous, nothing could be as lethal as the showdown that awaits them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great new author! 15 July 2010

Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is book one in a new series.
The characters are lively & appealing, our heroine is more low key about her powers & not just some butt kicking heroine with a nasty attitude that you see in so many of the other books in this genre.
I can see what the other reviewer means, yes it is a bit disorientating to begin with, you think you have missed out & come in mid plot, but not so. Love the protagonists, tight plot, multifacted characters, a real page turner....

update:
I have since read all three books in series & eagerly awaiting book four, the writing gets better & better & as the plot expands.
She reminds me a little of Nicole Peeler, Chole Neil, & Charlaine Harris.
For urban fantasy fans who like humour, a brave heroine, magical combat with romantic threads through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read :) 11 Feb. 2012

I liked Vicious Circle, it was interesting, the characters where engaging and I felt like Persephone was a real person with her own problems and insecurities. There was the basic idea of friendships drifting apart and then the bigger problems with the vampires but both created a real world we could relate too rather than just a kick ass heroine who everyone loves and wants to be friends with. I like that the love interest thing is going along slowly, it's great to read their attraction building and all that. Other characters are well developed too, Johnny doesn't just go along with Seph as you see towards the end of the book and Nana is just pure hilarious.
The only thing is that the storyline was a bit simple almost, or maybe just a bit samey with the genre this book is set in, and that there was a lot of setting up of the world Seph lives in but hopefully later books will be a bit more complicated or twisty. Other people commented that the beginning was confusing, I found it okay but I think you just need to go with it and let everything explain itself. There isn't an awful lot to this book but it took me three days to read, which is unusual for all the length of it. I think this is why it's a four stars for me, something else was missing to make Vicious Circle up there with the best of Sf/fantasy but there isn't an awful lot you can say is majorly wrong. Other than that definitely buy because I did enjoy it, I loved the characters which are this book's strong point, and I really think it will turn into a brillant series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Witches & werewolves do they mix? 20 Dec. 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Persephione is a witch, her grandmother has just moved in with her and she has werewolf friends, in a world where witches don't mix with them. But that's just the start of her problems. Great read with some excellent world building.
