ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Multi-talented author, Bryan Alaspa, is a Chicago native who has dreamed of being an author since third grade when he first sat down at his mother’s typewriter and pounded out his first short story. It wasn’t very good, but it did give him the habit for writing that he has not been able to shake since.

He is the author of several works, both fiction and non-fiction. His non-fiction works include the history and true crime genres, whilst his fiction is available in the horror, suspense, thrillers, and mystery categories. These include, The Ballad of the Blue Denim Gang, The Vanished Child, Dust, RIG: A Novel of Terror, After the Snowfall, MYTHOS: A Thriller, and the Sin-Eater series.

Bryan currently lives in Naperville, Illinois, with his bride-to-be, Melanie, and their two dogs, Gracie and Pippa.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vicious! 5 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having previously read 'Gone' and 'The Dead Phone' by Bryan Alaspa, and enjoying both titles immensely, I was pleased to be given an advance review copy of his latest novel 'Vicious', although the suggestion that the story revolved around savage dogs did put me off slightly as I'm not crazy about 'creature' horror tales. That being said, I wasn't prepared for how much I enjoyed this book. The background story surrounding Demon and Delilah, horrific in itself, allowed the reader to share some empathy with the two dogs, which gradually dwindles as we witness the terror they ensue on the innocent foursome. Alaspa enforces throughout the story that the dogs are victims themselves, seemingly trying to squeeze out any remaining shreds of sympathy we have for the canines until the very end. This is possibly my only complaint about 'Vicious' and the reason why I deducted a star. I was never entirely certain where my loyalties were meant to lie. This is absolutely fine in stories where there is an incredible twist at the end and the reader is meant to be kept in suspense as to the true intentions of each character. In this instance, I feel the ambivalence has more to do with the writer not wanting to offend too much. The essence of horror is to shock and if the reader has been shocked, the writer has done his job. No apologies are necessary. It's only fiction and if a reader can't handle brutality, blood, guts and gore...Amazon has an extensive chick lit section.

Alaspa creates a claustrophobic and tension-filled atmosphere with the two couples finding themselves trapped in the cabin. Whether you're a dog-lover or not, every reader would be able to share their terror. I did, in true horror film fashion, find myself getting frustrated at some of the obviously stupid decisions they made in an attempt to escape their captivity.

In conclusion, this was a very well written and well thought out story. It's not a Cujo rip-off. Bryan Alaspa has brought creature horror to a more intelligent level which is truly scarier than your average dog-gone-rabid tale. Stephen King can only dream...! :)

I found this a good read, sometimes difficult to put down. Quite believable and a bit of a possible insight into the possible results of animal cruelty.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Canine Thriller that is non-stop action!
Although this isn't my usual choice of genre, I do believe strongly that more attention needs to be focused on illegal dog fighting and the ramifications it has on the animals. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars I think now I'm even more scared of dogs :/
I approached the book thinking "How can you write 190 odd pages on a dog attack?" I think I kind of expected it to be a lot of fluff around the story, you know, kind of following... Read more

The book itself is very good, spoilt only by a lack of proof reading. But there are technical problems with the ebook file itself. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Vicious
Cujo with adults. Which is good because I can't read Cujo because of the kid in it, not as a parent. A great read, generally well thought out, with a few spelling mistakes. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars A slow read for me
This was a pretty well written book and I did enjoy the story however I felt it would have been a better book if it had been much shorter. I felt that it dragged on a bit. Read more

Ok, so I have never read this author before and I was amazed.
