I have arthritis in my midfeet and was interested in trying these out because of the way the make you use each toe individually. They are very comfortable, but they do take some getting used to. I have only worn mine as "house shoes" - around the home and garden. I do like them and they are good for getting your feet and toes mobile, but they don't seem to last very long. I bought mine in October. As of mid December, I have worn them a few hours a day maybe 4-5 days a week. I have washed them twice - both times in cold water and left to air dry. First time, they were fine, but the second time the sole has started to peel away from the top of the shoe. Not impressed as they are not an cheap shoe to buy. I was thinking of getting a second pair, but I am a bit put off by their lack of durability. You do need to wash them as they can get pretty smelly, even with the special deodorizing material. But it is disappointing to find them falling apart after 2½ months and 2 washes.

Once the correct size was received these shoes function very well. It is worth checking that you have ordered the correct size according to the manufacturer's guidelines which are available on their official website. The shoes are a fantastic way to further develop the experienced runner, although I have seen them used for walking as well. As a running shoe they offer the feel of barefoot running. There is the added challenge of using the spring action of the balls of your feet instead of relying on the cushioning of trainers. This offers the calf muscles and Achilles an extra workout, so long distance running is not an option until you become accustomed to them. The shoe itself is hardwearing but comfortable, easy to wash and durable. The price on Amazon is the lowest I've found from online and high street shops.

For years I have been a fan of endurance running. I had only just heard of these minimalist shoes and placed my order straight away. The shoes arrived the next day and I have already completed my first run. Once you get over the initial shock of running almost barefoot you begin to love the feel of your feet pounding the tarmac. Your running style is instantly changed and your foot fall is far lighter. I returned from the run expecting the usual aches and pains....but so far nothing. I am so so pleased with the product so far.

If the situation changes I will up date the review.

I bought these to use in the gym, as they are small, lightweight and easy to transport. In that respect they tick all the right boxes. They fit well, and provide enough protection while allowing my feet to do their work unhindered. They don't provide much protection on the top though, so if you're prone to dropping heavy gym equipment, then you'll probably want to avoid them.

The one complaint I have is that when utilised on a treadmill the soles of the shoe actually get hot. I only do 10 minutes at a time, but have switched to rowing as a result.

I am not a bare foot fitness fanatic, but do like to let my feet feel free, usually by being barefooted down the beach or by wearing open toed sandals when walking around town. On discovering these fivefingers I could see the problem described with always keeping toes locked up in shoes, so gave them a go. They are really very good, they feel comfy despite positively gripping each toe, and provide a confident grip on all surfaces, the lack of a strap is not an issue as they are so light they will not come off. The sizing is very important, and I followed the instructions on Vibram's website with success. The only issue, they do look strange, the colour between the toes (orange in my case) does not help at all, and trying to wear these in public requires confidence. You will always be aware you have them on.

I know some think its a bit of a fad, but i will never look back. My running is better (did start on a treadmill first to train in biomechanics) but fantastic for power work, body working so much better, great bit of kit to progress to the next stage. comfortable as well.

Worth checking out the Vibram FiveFingers website for sizing info - need to measure feet and then check reference chart. I usually take a size 9 but bought a size 8 in the end; suspect size 7.5 would have been even better. V funky :)

Vibram FiveFingers Men's Classic Trainer

We tested various models of the funny Vibram shoes and have to say, we love them!!! They take a while to get used to and if you are new to barefoot running you should build up from a 20min walk to a 10min run etc. If not you will experience pain and may cause injuries. Make sure you search for some videos on running in them as your posture and gait will be different.

Happy Running
