I bought this mount under one of its numerous names to mount a contour roam in a waterproof case at the end of my swimming lane, specifically to record myself finswimming for self coaching purposes.

To mount the waterproof case, it was necessary to remove the slide-in mount and replace it with the supplied standard 1/4 inch screw. Once that had been done, the mount was suitable for a whole army of other cameras too. Mine has spent much time clamped to my back windows holding various digital cameras at different times either videoing or photographing the wildlife visiting my garden.

It is very secure and stable once properly mounted, and here an instruction leaflet would have got me to 'properly' more quickly. There is a button on the back of the mount marked 'PRESS' which must be used to press the suction disk down before the lever is used to pull it back up for a secure hold. Problem is that it is not obvious, and can also be pretty well hidden by the mounting arm, so my first couple of attempts were anything but stable or secure. Reading a review of its being used with a Contour Plus camera on Amazon.com, I am clearly not the first person to be so caught out.

However, this was quickly overcome, and the mount itself has proved to be excellent.

High Quality, Extremely Versatile, Works Perfectly 17 Aug 2009
By M. Perez - Published on Amazon.com
I have a VholdR ContourHD camera on an adhesive mount at the side of my motorcycle fairing. I use the "windshield mount kit" to view the operation of various parts of the motorcycle in testing. The suction cup system is completely effective. It holds a tight seal even under heavy vibration and pounding on a fast street motorcycle driven at high road speeds over bumps, in turns, and in heavy braking and acceleration. The mount hardware holding the camera is sturdy but light, and the cranes allow just about any configuration or positioning of the camera. For the price this is a fabulous mount that works on areas of a motorcycle other than the windshield.

Update 14 October 2011: My son used this mount kit on an automobile on the sides of the fenders, hood, roof, and bumper. Much of the driving was high-speed (130+) on a race track for hours at a time. Some of the driving was on roads, also mounted for hours at a time. No failures of the suction cup and the crane remained tightly bound every time. This continues to impress me with its solid construction, flexibility, durability, and ease of use.

Holds like crazy 13 Oct 2009

This windshield mount holds like crazy. I used it on my SUV to video some extreme 4x4 action and the mount held on without an issue to the hood, windows, and a steel bumper though miles of bumpy forest trail and hard rock crawling. It's flexible ball mount and the camera's ability to rotate 180 degrees allows you to capture nearly any angle possible. It's lightweight plastic which means it's light enough for use on a motorcycle panel and comes clean with a bit of soap and water.

not for the 1080p 7 Jan 2010

This is a very well made windshield mount. Looks like it was made by Panavise.
The camera mounting rail is too narrow for the Contour 1080p.
I had to return it.

IT DOES WORK WITH THE CONTOURHD 1080P! 30 Sep 2010
By Rich L. Miller - Published on Amazon.com

In contradiction to what a couple other reviewers are posting, this mount DOES work with the ContourHD 1080p. Either the mount makers have made a small change with the one I have, since the posts saying it didnt fit were from a while ago, or those posters were idiots. It is a little tight and takes a tiny bit of force, but who wants one that slides around easily? I have seen and used many windshield mounts for different things like radar detectors, and GPS devices and I have NEVER seen or used a mount that was as well made and sturdy as this. I just used it the other day to do some videos of when I fly in my helicoper and they were great. There was almost no vibration while I was flying, and these copters are not smooth by any stretch of the imagination. The main arm is a screw down type with teeth. The secondary are is a friction ball that works very well. I flew for 2 hours with it positioned at a 90 degree angle with gravity and vibration fighting against it and it never slipped. Between quality and price this thing is a no brainer purchase. If I had to pick one flaw I would have to say it is a bit large, but that points towards the attribute of its being sturdy. Get one.

Better Than I Thought 4 Aug 2010
By Dave - Published on Amazon.com

When I attach this to my windshield it reminds me of the police "dash cams": sturdy, unobtrusive and ready for anything. I mounted this to the side fairing of my BMW motorcycle and, without a tether, used it for about 400 miles one day with no worries - tight and twisty, all the way up to 100mph. Rather, there were no worries AFTER I parked the bike. During the ride I constantly gave the cam a visual to make sure it was there and at every stop it was mounted as solidly as ever. I think next time a tether (perhaps fishing line?) would be a good idea.
