This album is wonderfully free, both in the way that the instruments are played, and in the spirit that it evokes. The music is founded on quick-fingered, rolling, twin guitars and the emploring singing voice of Monique Rasoanirina. Close vocal harmonies are also strongly called upon to give the music richness. This is a quintessential Madagascan folk sound which will have you dreaming of fishing villages in the moonlight. Accessible and uplifting.

Very likable album of Madagascar music with great guitarist 29 May 2002
By woburnmusicfan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Njava is a Madagascar band made up of 5 siblings. Lead singer Monika and sister Lala have smoky alto voices, and brother Dozzy is up there with D'Gary and Tarika Sammy's Johnny as a guitar virtuoso. If you like D'Gary's music, give this a try. The music has a dreamy, mesmerizing quality. The songwriting isn't as strong as some other Malagasy bands. In particular, the vocal melodies aren't very memorable -- the guitar melodies are catchier. The CD includes two a cappella songs. My favorite tracks are "Jiboty", "Vetse", and "Lahy Raty".

I love music from every part of Africa; Cote d' ivoire, Ghana, you name it.

And this Malagasy band is no exception, all of Njava's songs are both enjoyable and catchy.

plus, the guitar rhythms are addicting.
