Gentle Reader: please bear in mind that if a book has few reviews, any reviewer that gives a lavish 4 or 5 star review might just have a very close connection to the author of that novel.
SERIOUS NOTE: Anyone who purchases this book, will soon own the worst piece of rubbish that any Vanity Publishing Company has ever produced.
I am relatively fortunate. I came across this piece of tripe in the library of an Italian Cruise ship. It is pretty certain that the author will have paid a considerable sum to print copies of his noble endeavour - so other copies will be found in similar locations to entrap the unsuspecting reader.
Vesuvius 2012 is a catchy title. Unfortunately for the reader - that is it! Literally! By the end of Chapter One, my brain cells had started to atrophy. I skimmed through its remaining pages in the hope of improvement but it deteriorated rapidly from there.
The main character, who is obviously the author, plus wife and some friends, have holidayed together in the same Sorrento hotel for 18 years. Their 2012 holiday is slightly spoiled when Vesuvius erupts and Naples is destroyed. As the death toll approaches 1 million, he receives good news from England. His grandchild has achieved great GCSE results. This minimises the catastrophe.
Because Edward John Smith has absolutely no understanding of Vulcanology, Disaster Management, International Aid and the Italian people, he believed he was qualified to write a novel on these subjects. Sadly he is grievously mistaken.
