Biography

Björk's seventh full-length album Biophilia, a multi-media project pairing 10 songs with corresponding iPad Apps, is her most conceptually complex. Track titles read like captions in a textbook -- "Moon," "Thunderbolt," "Virus," the first single "Crystalline" -- but each piece is filtered through Björk's personal connection to, and ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Music as it REALLY should be.... 3 Feb 2003
Format:DVD Audio
OK so I am a bit of an audiophile (you know one comfy chair in JUST the right place, etc.) and a Bjork fanatic to boot but... This DVDA has just got to be included in the library of anyone with even a passing interest in today's music. The clarity and brilliance of the musical performance is reproduced as perfectly as you are going to get with this finely engineered DVDA.
From the precise music box (a theme of the album) sounds of "Frosti" to the sweeping scales and beats of "Pagan Poetry" this DVDA so outclasses the CD that you will ask why all artists don't utilise this medium.
All five main channels of the Advanced Resolution Surround group exhibit precise detail (the LFE channel needs no comment!) with no crossover and no obvious deviations.
The enhanced stereo group shows the difference in dynamic range and clarity that is achieved over normal CDAudio.
If you don't own a DVDA yet, well a good compromise is DVDVideo compatable 5.1 which comes on side 1 (yes there are three versions on this one disk!) so you can enjoy the surround effects (albeit at a reduced sample rate) whilst waiting for an excuse to shell out for that DVDA player.
In conclusion this silver disk has taken pride of place in my audio collection. Bjork's vocals are powerful and vibrant, the mixing is superb, the range and clarity of all musical elements is a delight. Truly a future classic of Advanced Resolution DVDAudios - buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surrounded by Björk 18 Oct 2002
Format:DVD Audio
I own both the cd and the dvd-audio version of Vespertine and the difference is huge. The surround version is how the album is ment to be. Especially because Björk uses noise, static clicks etc. to create her music, the dvd-audio is litteraly surrounding (almost imprisoning) the listener, making the experience far beyond the extraordinary.

So if you have a high quality surround system, I can't recommend this version enough.
You haven't heard Vespertine until you've heard it on dvd-audio!
The DD 5.1 mix (side A) is almost as good, so you don't have to own a dvd-audio compatible dvd-player to be sent to Heaven.

5.0 out of 5 stars a little bit EXTRA info 31 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD Audio
ok, not going to rate this album cos no word to describe heaven. if you're a big fan of bjork, please save your money to buy this dvd-audio, you never get disappointed. there are two sides of this dvd-a which they called it dvd-10. side A contains the dolby digital stereo and 5.1 sound tracks which can be playback by normal dvd player. side B is the superior "Advanced Resolution" stereo and 5.1 surround sound. anyway, the sticker on the dvd-a or booklet stated the advance resolution 5.1 surround sound is in 24 bits, 96khz(very good sound quality!!) but i found out that it has only 24 bits, 48khz(lower quality), what a lie!! yet the advance resolution stereo should at 24 bit, 192khz quality but also got lower quality at 24 bits, 48khz. just forget the specification if you didn't understand, all i wanna try to explain is this vespertine dvd-a doesn't meet the standard high quality with others!! i love this album very much but i got to tell you the truth.
there're still many surprises awaiting you cos some tracks have different music arrangement!! ---->>an echo a stain, heirloom and unison. you only can hear the difference in dolby digital and advance resolution 5.1 surround sound. no changes in stereo sound.
i have to say all the 5.1 surround sound were well-made. the menu is simple but efficient. buy it!!!!
note: US edition has only one side. other remains the same.
