Book Description

30 May 2003
Tunes and nursery rhymes from all over the world are included in this illustrated book, alongside classical pieces from the world's finest composers, including J.S. Bach, Thomas Morley and Franz Schubert. Snippets of information about the origins of each tune on the borders of each page aim to give children a more intuitive feel for the music and advise them on timing. The Usborne Quicklinks site provides downloadable files so that children can listen to the tunes on their computer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very easy at all! 7 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a lovely book, visually - the usual Usborne style of colour and stickers. However I would not describe the tunes as 'very easy'. My 8yr old has been having lessons for about 8 months and is only just beginning to master some of these tunes. The level varies quite a lot throughout the book; the first few require some use of the left hand, but after the first 4 or 5 tunes, you'd have to be very confident with two-handed playing to manage the tunes. I feel that you might describe these as 'easy piano tunes', to call them 'very easy' is probably a bit disheartening for youngsters who are just starting out with Twinkle, Twinkle, and Kumbayah!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very colourful and tunes that are familiar 7 Feb 2012

My little girl loves the stickers provided too! A good buy. Interesting collection of popular songs and nursery rhymes. My 5 year old is challenged but not overwhelmed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go mummy, go! 23 Jan 2009
Format:Paperback
My five-and-a-half-year old started private piano classes after we were given an old piano by my inlaws. Neither my husband nor I play, we never had any music classes either. I bought this book along with a few others to get him - and myself - started. The thing is that I absolutely wanted to keep him going! I myself hated those first classes with two or three notes to play and a lot of time keeping, but I got hooked on this book. With a few hints of the piano teacher I can now play two songs already and this after only one month! What is so fabulous is that this does keep my son going, he is eager to hear and watch me learn the songs we both are familiar with and can't wait to play them too, he soon will! I just love to play a proper song and try extra hard when my son shouts "Go mummy, Go!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Easy Piano Tunes 3 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
An excellent book which I gave to my grand-daughter who has recently started learning piano. It has given her more scope than the music that is just learned in her lessons and has prompted her to want to play for herself.

I would have given this book a 5 star rating, but I have one reservation - I find coloured pages unnecessary and not so easy to read. Black print on white pages is better for music. However, this is a very useful book as it provides tuneful and popular pieces for young pianists who are just getting their hands together, and these pieces have easy rhythms so that the performer can concentrate on coordinating hands together without the added complication of complex rhythmic patterns. There is a real shortage of such material, as I find that many piano primers move too fast at this stage, especially for the little ones. Children want to play 'real' tunes too, and I like the selection very much. More like this please - and I would welcome a similar book for older pupils and adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good piano starter for child 3 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
This selection of simple piano pieces progresses gently, allowing the young pianist to make satisfying steps. Stickers are a good idea to celebrate the successful playing of a piece.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Easy Piano Tunes 5 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
May be very easy for those who can read music but NOT for beginners. My granddaughters were disappointed and so was I. It would have been helpful if they put not for beginners. The book will not get used.
