Firstly, don't be fooled into thinking this is a graphic novel, it's not. This is a book of two halves. The first half is a series of 'funnies' - 1 page cartoon strips, usually showing men coming to grief by being distracted by Dolly's overample charms. These are rendered in a colourful (you might say garish) art in the style of 50's book illustrations. They aren't that great and if that was all there was to this book then I would probably only award it 1 star - they are good in themselves and if you like this sort of thing then they will please you, but I was a bit miffed because I thought I was getting a graphic novel.
What rescues this book for me is the second half - the 'Illustrated History of Sexual Excess!' section. This consists of 6 double page and 5 single page paintings. The double-pagers are fantastic paintings of comedy orgies, each one set in a different historical era. (Up Pompeii comes to mind.) The single-pagers are more typical glamour portraits. These, unlike the earlier cartoon strips, are wonderfully painted. It's such a shame that the double page paintings are spread over two perfect-bound pages as some detail disappears down the crack. This last section is a 5, which is why I, misleadingly, gave it an overall rating of 3.
