Product Description

CD Description

Assume Nothing. Question Everything. A pretty appropriate title for what Stiff Little Fingers have done for the last 35 years. Right from the start they were either criticised or
lauded for their choice of subject matter. Since then, the band have continued to plough their own furrow. They ve always just been Stiff Little Fingers and they still are, with a 35th Anniversary, 14-date UK tour from 14th-31st March.

Listen to this 42-track collection whilst reading Jake Burns sleeve notes and you ll understand why!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Comp, Great Band 16 Mar 2012
By Sofaboy
Format:Audio CD
There are a few compilations of this band but this could well be the best wrestling the title away from 'All the Best'. At 42 tracks it's comprehensive and for a fiver it's excellent value. Alternative Ulster, At the Edge, Just Fade Away, Guitar and Drum and, of course, Suspect Device are worth the price of admission alone.

A generous selection from the glory years plus the cherrys picked from later material (and some of these are real gems).

If you like witty, rough edged but melodic punk then SLF are for you.

Suggest this CD as a starting point to SLF then Inflammable Material, Nobody's Heroes, Hanx and Guitar and Drum. Catch them live if you get the opportunity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eclectic SLF Compilation 12 April 2012
Format:Audio CD
There are so many great SLF songs that it should be impossible to put together a poor compilation, and this isn't one. but should it be described as a best of?

The answer is subjective of course, but some favourites you would probably expect to see on a best of, such as the hit single Listen, are omitted.

It's also a shame that some of the best songs from the latter part of their career have been overlooked once again - here's a recommendation to check out Get a Life, Beirut Moon, Harp, Each Dollar a Bullet and Can't Believe in You.

With two discs available one devoted to early SLF and one to the best from Flags and Emblems onwards would have offered a great insight into the evolution of the band. It would also give some well deserved exposure to a canon of work that has not received the attention it deserves.

That said for the price this is a great introduction to an exceptional band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value, odd track selection 5 Nov 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Bizarre track selection: some real clunkers like Gate 49 or Kicking up a Racket, yet missing Listen, Each Dollar a Bullet , Is that what you fought the War For? and my favourite song about domestic violence, Hits and Misses.

Great value, so although I own all the tracks on other discs, I bought this for the car to educate my kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great to hear a great band again. 7 May 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Some friends introduced me to SLF sometime around 1990 and we all bought tickets to go see them. I bought an couple of albums so I knew what to expect, and bam! I lost touch with them years back, but listening to the first few tracks from this album and I was back there. Awesome band!

5.0 out of 5 stars oap punk 2 April 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Punks longest lasting outfit show the newbies how it was done and how it still should be...they fought religious hatred in their own country stuck two fingers up to the world and created some memorable anthemic youth tunes ever..
