A Wonderful Introduction to the Art of Kiri Te Kanawa,

This is a terrific collection of arias and songs by a singer with one of the most beautiful voices of our time. There are Italian, French and German arias and I really must single out the aria by Korngold which is simply wonderful - I could not stop playing it.
The songs cover a very wide range, from Gershwin, Kern and Berlin to English, Scottish and Irish folk songs, and Maori songs from Kiri's native New Zealand. 150 minutes of some of the best singing you'll hear and all in first class sound quality. Very highly recommended.

I am surprised at the selection. The first CD is worth listening to and demonstrates why Dame Kiri was acclaimed as one of the top sopranos of her generation. I particularly enjoyed the Mozart, Wagner and Weber pieces. But the second CD is Dame Kiri outside of classical musical. To be frank, I don't think that sopranos are at all well suited to many of these pieces - and that goes for Dame Kiri and even Victoria de los Angeles.

Me parece que el arte vocal de Kiri posee muchas fortalezas y sòlidos atributos: brillantez, claridad, riqueza de colores, excelente fraseo, perfecta colocación y afinación, expresividad. Sin embargo, también carece de una mejor respiración para poder contrarrestar el excesivo vibrato que aplica a su canto. Sobre algunas de las obras interpretadas, recomiendo: Der Rosenkavalier: Schwarzkopf; Wagner: Kirsten Flagstad.
