Product Description

From the Back Cover

In this unique compilation video, Stuart Hall presents the funniest moments from the domestic heats together with classic clips from teh international version of the programme, the legendary Jeux Sans Frontiers. It's all here - the unintelligible accents, the very brief shorts, the penguins, the lot. Oh, and not forgetting the Germans-who always won or so it seemed.

This video is fantastic. I bought it as a joke for someone. We both sat and watched it and had to turn it off after 20 minutes. I could not hardly breathe from laughing and he had a pain in his chest from being in hysterics. I have since introduced it to another of my friends and just the thought of the 12 Labours of Hercules sends us both into hysterics. The hydra in particular is one of our favourites. I can watch it over and over again and still be in stitches. The russian dolls are also fantastic viewing especially when they fall over and the spindley legs of one contestant can be seen frantically trying to regain their balance and stand upright- priceless. Is there a DVD with even more clips?

Stuart Hall introduces clips of the classic TV gameshow in 60 of the funniest minutes ever committed to video. While mention is made of It's A Knockout, this video focuses primarily on the Eurovision spectacular Jeux Sans Frontiers. The fantastic sets, the costumes, the teams are all included here - the giant ostriches, penguins, the aloof Germans, underhand Italians, plucky Brits and hopeless Belgians - nights from the annals of TV legend. No compilation would be complete of course without Stuart Hall's riotous laughter and this tape has it by the bucketload. Stuart spends around a third of the tape screaming in hysterics - I defy anyone watching not to join in with him. In the week that Jeux Sans Frontiers is finally consigned to Euro-history, this video is a timely reminder of just how funny Friday night TV used to be. Buy it.

If you remember 'It's a Knockout' with the warm glow that I do, then this video is a must. Although it only stretches to 61 minutes, it bursts with bonhomie and is delightfully 'linked' by the irrepressible Stuart Hall - early successor to David Vine as chief presenter - who obviously looks back on those times with great affection. It mainly focusses on the international Jeux sans Frontiers heats, and features glimpses of bright blazered referees together with our own beloved Eddie Waring and Arthur Ellis. Have you forgotten the Fil Rouge, and the show that single handedly kept the European Foam Industry in full production for more than a decade? Odd to think that a show that pulled in enormous audiences for years and acually engendered links between towns all over Europe was thrown out thoughtlessly by the BBC. My kids loved it and wanted to see more...ah well, 61 minutes is better than nothing! Delightful!
