Biography

Rock's longest, strangest trip, the Grateful Dead were the psychedelic era's most beloved musical ambassadors as well as its most enduring survivors, spreading their message of peace, love, and mind-expansion across the globe throughout the better part of three decades. The object of adoration for popular music's most fervent and celebrated fan following -- the Deadheads, their ... Read more in Amazon's Grateful Dead Store

Featuring a lot of their "user friendly" tunes, this is a pretty comprehensive and wide-ranging overview of the band's career. With over almost 40 years and umpteen albums behind them, there will always be debates about what could / should / shouldn't be included but this is a great selection for the uninitiated and a superb introduction. It majors on the more accessible material and is a great 70 minutes of melodic, country-ish, inventive Rock. If you don't know or only barely know the Dead, this is the place to start.

This is a superb introduction to the Grateful Dead,an impossible task to complete on 1 disc and ultimately is woefully inadequate. That someone tried we should be 'Grateful' as it is a career spanning compilation.

All the user friendly tracks are here so no 'Dark Star' for example but is a gentle intro to the 'Dead's world and gives a little glimpse,no more,if you like what you hear, dip your toes further, its a rewarding journey

The music is sublime almost to my ears country rock with some 60's acid rock thrown in,an ever evolving musical journey awaits the listener, once hooked you will want more.

Recommended compilation for those new to the Dead. You can't go wrong with this.
Old style country music fused with psychedelia, rock, and good old fashion twangly janggly guitar...
ah... all I need now is beer and some peanuts.

Great sound and packaging as well.

While shaving I noticed a few more grey hairs, so I started singing 'Touch of Grey'. I saw this CD on here so splased out. This is fantastic, joyful music, also the musicianship isn't half bad as well. So my advice - skip the hair dye, buy this CD it will make you feel much better in the long run.

As a 23 year old, disheartened with moderen chart music, I purchased this album as an introduction to the legendary Grateful Dead. While only 17 tracks long, it's a wonderful collection of music that's completely ageless. The quality of the recordings are superb and it's a great starting point for me as a new Grateful Dead fan.

Love it...perfect for a long car journey if you're an old hippy or new to the genre. I've played it over and over and I was born after most of the hits were written. Came promptly in the post.
