The Four Seasons (or the 4 Seasons, as they were numerically billed in their heyday) were among the most successful pop singles artists of the rock era. With 46 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1962 and 1995, they were ranked by chart researcher Joel Whitburn as 31st among the top singles acts of the period 1955-2006, and with 39 of those records having charted during the 1960s alone, ... 5.0 out of 5 stars A truely superb album 15 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
One miserable winter's morning driving to work and listening to a Golden oldie station they played 'down the hall'and I found myself smiling and singing along with the song. After it had finished I realised how many good songs they had recorded and HOW long they had been making excellent music. That weekend I went out and bought the CD and was simply blown away by the quality and diversity of their music. As well has the well known classics there is the catchy OPUS 17 (my favouite)The only disappointed is that 'The Night' is not on the CD but Hey just buy it and listen !

4.0 out of 5 stars Play it in Mono for the full effect. 19 Oct 2007
Format:Audio CD
The Four Seasons, the sound of 1960s New York! Four American boys, mainly of Italian extraction. Even now, the power and multi-layered harmonies will just blow you away. A kind of east coast Beach Boys if you like, but with a slightly harder edge. In fact they did eventually (1984) record an album with the Beach Boys.

Party songs like "Let's Hang On" and "December" only really tell you a fraction of what you need to know about this band. This compilation gives a fuller - but still not complete - picture.

Oddly, several of the Four Season's songs are more familiar to UK audiences being done by other artists. For example when the Tremeloes took "Silence is Golden" to number one in April 1967, the Four Season's original version was all but lost to the airwaves which is maybe why it's not included here. It has to be said though that the Tremeloes version is almost a note for note remake of the Season's record. Similarly, the Osmonds (or rather their arranger) did a far better job of "The Proud One" than the Season's original (no matter, since again that 'Seasons track is wisely not included here!). On this compilation we do get "Workin' my Way Back To You" - which was #1 hit in an enjoyable disco version for the Detroit Spinners in 1980. However, the 'Seasons' original still does it better for me.

Frankie Valli was always the featured performer of the group and enjoyed an intermittently successful solo career ("You're Ready Now", "My Eyes Adored you", "Grease" and so on) - until progressive deafness prevented him from doing more. His deafness was eventually mitigated by surgery, but he has never soared again to such commercial success.

In this collection we get all the 1960s hits - each one a superbly crafted piece of sub 3-minute pop heaven.

5.0 out of 5 stars A milestone in popular music!!! 25 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
"No woman's worth crawling on the earth" - the immortal words of Mr Frankie Valli from Walk Like a Man, just one of the many chestnuts this delightful compilation reveals to us. Who could fail to be moved by the heart rending pathos of the beautiful song Ragdoll. And the timeless standard Big Girls Don't Cry proves that the Four Seasons are the yardstick by which all subsequent popular music acts are measured. Mr Valli's falsetto is sheer transcendant bliss. Westlife are not worthy to kiss the ground he walks on. Amen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silver Star 9 Oct 2012
By Rob
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Having recently enjoyed the musical "The Jersey Boys" I ordered this 24 track greatest hits compilation of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. There are many such compilations and none of them are completely comprehensvie but this one chooses great songs, including my favourite Silver Star - which isn't always included and wasn't in the show, despite topping the charts in the 70s.

The only song I'd have liked included which is missing is "Diggin'", which was so effective in the Jersey Boys. As well as their well-known hits, several Four Seasons songs were covered by other artists who had big hits with them - Silence is Golden (Tremeloes), Can't Take My Eyes Off You (Andy Williams) and Working My Way Back To You, all included here. They were great songwriters as well as singers.

There are also included a few covers of other artist's songs here, The Beatles' We Can Work It Out, and The Walker Brothers The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore. My favourite songs though are the disco hits Who Loves You, December 63, Silver Star and also My Eyes Adored You, Walk Like A Man, Big Girls Dont Cry, Lets Hang On, The Night, Opus 17 and Grease.

This is a really good collection, and great value with no less than 24 tracks on one CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not available in the UK but worth the wait! 31 Dec 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I looked for the Very Best of the Four Seasons album for my husband for Christmas and it had to include the track "Down the Hall". This was not available from any UK supplier so was very pleased to track it down to Elite Digital via Amazon. We were slightly disappointed not to receive it in time for Christmas Day but it was worth the wait!
