5.0 out of 5 stars A Euphoric album!!! 24 Feb 2004
Format:Audio CD
Many people say Disco was a music style that was overly commercial, that has dated very badly and rather reminds people of dubious late 70s fashion and "annoying" Bee Gees songs. However, there is no denying that like punk, glam rock and new wave the legacy of disco lives on in today's music- without disco, modern dance music just would not exist. Plus, it is far too simplistic to say disco was just commercial and naff, devoid of any substance. Actually, disco combined elements of rock and black music with the development of the synthesiser to produce a new style that placed emphasis on strong melody and strong bassline. So as such, the late 70s and early 80s when disco ruled the roost must be recognised as a crucial period in popular music, as not only did it follow on from previous styles, it laid the foundations for new styles of music such as hiphop, rap and modern R n B. One can hear this on listening to this album.
One thing that needs to be said, with this album you will either love it, or you will want to throw it into the nearest dustbin. Since I for one absolutely love disco for the strong melodies and basslines that I have already described, this CD, from the opening of Real Thing's "Can You Feel the Force", just blew me away. I loved this album for a couple of reasons:
1)The two CDs are very clever MIXES, not just a collection of songs- so you have the feeling of actually being in a club, where songs segue seamlessly into each other. This is very well done throughout, for example where "Can You Feel the Force" segues into the Jacksons "Can You Feel It", and where Chic's "Le Freak" goes into Sister Sledge's "Lost in Music".
2)Absolutely amazing songs! Most of these songs are 20-25 years old, and yet they still sound as fresh as ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars oh my lordy lord 17 May 2004
Format:Audio CD
I received this three days ago and it has has simply become my favourite CD!!!!
I agree completely with the comments above as at 19 it gives me too an insight into 70s disco and god how I wish I'd been born 30 years earlier!!
From start to finish this CD is amazing, disc 1 getting right into things with a bit of a mellow interlude at the start of disc 2 before climaxing with some of my all time faves, including the sublime 'yes sir, i can boogie'... what more do you need!!
Come on people... flood every party in the land with copies of this CD - I'd happily trade in today's chart mumblings for this godsend!

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but not fantastic 15 Jun 2006
Format:Audio CD
Being a big disco fan, and a mobile DJ, this release interested me greatly.

I have to say I agree with the previous review about the mixing - really not good at all. The mixing would be acceptable in a live mix, like in a club, but for listening it really is shoddy at times.

As for the song selection - pretty good. Many big hitters included, proper disco anthems like 'The Average White Band - Let's Go Round Again', 'The Trammps - Disco Inferno' and 'Hues Corporation - Rock The Boat'.

There are also some lesser known gems (commercially) such as 'The Three Degrees - Giving Up Giving In' and 'Cerrone - Supernature'.

Some tracks i feel should have been omitted however, like the opener - 'The Real Thing - Can You Feel The Force', and 'Isaac Hayes - Theme From Shaft'. Tracks such as these I find to be very average, and could name at least 50 tracks which would do better in their place.

Still unsure where the 'Euphoric' title applies, as only a few of the tracks could be described as such. I suppose it ties it in with the series though.

Overall a decent offering though, worth it if you're a 'passing' disco fan, but not a fanatic!
