This review is about the 2014 double vinyl record re-release.

The music contained on these two 180g slabs of vinyl are all five star songs from Elton. All killer no filler as I like to say. Now to the presentation. This is a re-issue of the best selling compilation, first released in 1990,that covers most of Elton's hits from the early 70's to 1990. What should have been a celebration of a best selling title comes of as looking like a dressed up budget compilation made for bulk sale in supermarkets and department stores.

Firstly to the reproduced artwork. The gate-fold cover seems to be a good reprint with no obvious signs of duplication. I've never owned this set on vinyl before but I've made some comparisons with the first generation cd artwork and all looks good and nicely detailed. The printed inner sleeves are a different matter altogether. They are most obviously sourced from copied images. The lyrics are blurry and give the impression of cheap printing or low resolution scanning. They're so badly printed I cannot easily read them.

But what is most unbelievable is how much music is crammed on to the records (12 tracks on record one and fourteen on record two). I know that doesn't sound like a lot of content but we're talking EJ here not The Beatles and a number of the tracks on this compilation run well past the five minute mark. They initially sound ok considering how fine the grooves would need to be to fit it all on each side (industry standard is between 16 and 20 minutes for optimum fidelity, anything over that and you get what is called groove distortion). These four sides of music ALL have well over 25 minutes on them. Side four fares the worst running to nearly 32 minutes with some very noticeable distortion by the time you get towards the final tracks.

More than another compilation 2 April 2014
By John Sposato - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I know Elton John has more of these collections than he even knows about (the number of studio albums alone is large enough) but I just had to get this one. This wasn't released in the US and Canada as the boxed set To Be Continued was released there instead with all of these tracks and an alternate version of that was released everywhere else the following year. This album comes on the heels of John coming out of the clinic and burying Ryan White, and John wanted to start the new decade (1990) off right. He sold off his old stage wardrobe for charity two years previous (Reg Strikes Back sleeve).
Some of these songs weren't hits in the US such as "Passengers", "Song for Guy" and "Kiss the Bride". Other songs fans on both sides of the pond grew up with are all here like "Your Song", "Bennie and the Jets" and "I'm Still Standing" are featured so there's something for everyone here. Many more of these have come out since then but if you're looking for the classic period then this is for you.

A Must For Any EJ Fan! 5 July 2012
By leopard02 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
At first I was a little skeptical about making this purchase due to all the Asian characters that appear on the front as well as back cover of this VCD. Did not know if the videos on the actual product I would receive would be in English or Asian language. I debated for quite some time about the purchase, but Tim (the seller I purchased mine from), supplied me with the UPC code on the product he had for sale. Once I did some research on the UPC code, all my questions as to the videos on the CVD as well as if they were in English were answered. Make sure if you are interested in the video collection and not just the audio CD, that the item you purchase is listed correctly under a listing which either has the yellow "It's a VCD" sticker on the picture of the item, or that the listing states, "Enhanced" in the title listing. If in doubt, check with the seller you are interested in purchasing from to make sure you don't end up with the audio collection. Very nice collection of videos, some are very early 1970's when EJ was just starting out (Your Song, and Daniel), a good selection from his 1980's MTV and VH1 era, (was surprised that Empty Garden was not included in this collection), along with some early 1990's. There are even some live performances from concerts mixed in throughout. Videos are: Your Song, Daniel, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, Rocket Man (live), Blue Eyes, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, I'm Still Standing, Kiss The Bride, Sad Songs Say So Much, Passengers, Nikita, Wrap Her Up (live), Candle In The Wind (live), Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting, (live), I Don't Want To Go On With You Like That, Philadelphia Freedom (live), Sacrifice, You Gotta Love Someone. This is a MUST for any EJ fan to add to their collection from one of the world's best gifted singer/composer of all time. You will not be disappointed. Get this item while you can, it is not very easy to find. Elton ranks at the top, and in my opinion, no one will ever be able to top him. His style along with his collaboration with Bernie is very hard to find these days. He is a legend and whenever his time comes, he will be greatly missed by many.
