Product Description

Product Description

The disappearance of Richey Edwards, troubled guitarist with the Manic Street Preachers, is one of rock and roll's great unresolved mysteries. His Vauxhall Cavalier was found abandoned in a service station car park near the Severn Bridge, a notorious suicide spot, in February 1995, a fortnight after Edwards had last been seen. The location of the car and the tape left in the deck - Nirvana's album In Utero - tended to point to one conclusion. However, it almost seemed too obvious a statement, and in A VERSION OF REASON, Rob Jovanovic unravels the complicated life and final days of Richey Edwards. Piecing together testimony from those close to Edwards Jovanovic seeks to produce an authoritative account of the life and times of Richey Edwards.

I was really looking forward to reading something new here, but the author completely fails to deliver. It's really quite laughable when he describes how he crept around Edwards's old school, only to run off when the girls netball team came out (in the UK at the moment, everybody is terrified of being labeled a paedophille).
All of the information in the book was already out there. A quick internet search can get you all of the quotes, anecdotes and old interviews in this book. No new interviews with the band. None with old friends, or witnesses to any of the main events in Edwards's life.
It really is a complete waste of time, with the author shamelessly cashing in on a tragic (and still) unexplained disapearance.

A waste of money 21 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
This book promised so much and delivered so little. There was very little new information in this book, and it seemed like the book was patched together from interviews featured in NME and Melody maker (I know - I've been a Manics fan for almost 20 years and I have read most of them).
I really cannot recommend this book. Do yourself a favour - if you want a great book about Richey and the Manics, buy Everything (A book about Manic Street Preachers) by Simon Price.

Things I never knew 21 July 2009
By Emily
Format:Hardcover
Having next to no knowledge of the Manic's history I found this book gripping, informative and thoroughly enjoyable.
I love a good mystery and this story (although probably known inside out by die hard fans) kept me hooked right to the end.
Richey is compared to Doherty and not loosley in my opinion. Quite dark in places when you put together the self harming, alcohol addiction and deppression but if that's what floats your boat you'll love it.
