This book is the manuscript of my PhD dissertation, defended in 2007 at Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees, Paris, France, and obtained Summa Cum Laude. This book is based on three years of research, including one year of fieldwork in Los Angeles, based at the UCLA Institute of the Environment.

About the Author

Fionn MacKillop is a Research Fellow at Manchester University, UK, where he works on the history of urban climatology in relation to urban planning in several major cities. After graduating from Ecole Normale Superieure (Paris), he obtained a Master's degree in Urban Planning from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees. His PhD dissertation was followed by a two-year research project on waste management at Durham University (UK).
