Book Description

A novel of magic, a noir romance and mystery, set in a real and imagined New York. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

It was on a snowy February night in New York that Leo met the girl who would change his life. Veronica.

And so began an extraordinary journey into a world where nothing was quite as it appeared to be, where real time was supernaturally transformed, and events challenged all rational explanation.

Written with startling clarity, Veronica is an exquisite tale of magic and mysticism, mystery and romance, that is quite unlike anything you have ever read before.

From start to finish this wonderful piece of romantic magic realism is a roller coaster ride. It's filled with magic moments; almost every page displays an astonishing imagination at work. Why is this novel not better know? There is enough here for it to be a pleasure when read again and again. Truly astonishing.

The plot itself is a fairly simple tale of battling magicians, once all the mysteries and magic are explained, but the suspense is held right up to the final pages. The characters, too, are a curious bunch. If it has a flaw at all it is perhaps in the rather dispassionate nature of the narrator, and also in the rather muddled descriptions of the Empire State Building and the battle between the magicians. This is odd, because, eslewhere, the sense of place is very sharp.

These are quibbles, though, and this is highly recommended. Fans of Jonathan Carroll who can't wait for his new one would be well advised to try this.

I read this book a few years ago and it is so engaging that it has become part of my psyche! 'Veronica' expands thoughts, previous beliefs and makes you wonder what is truly possible. Beauty, poetry, & possibilities become a delicious mix. I highly reccomend it!
