Size: Florida Atlas Verified Purchase
I am something of a map collector and I love maps. They are useful tools and works of art at the same time. I was disappointed by this Florida atlas for number of quite small reasons which added up to quite a big issue. I thought the scale was too large for such a big area. I am used to maps of the whole of Great Britain being at 1:250,000 (see Great Britain Road Atlas (large format) (A-Z Road Atlas)) and being completely clear, yet this atlas was at 1:150,000 but covered a much larger square mileage and somehow was less clear, although I am prepared to accept that this may have been due, in part, to what I am used to reading. Another point is that despite containing a wealth of textual information, there is only one type of map - there are no higher scale city maps or airport plans of say, Orlando, Maiami, Tampa etc. Furthermore, given the importance attached, on the road, to mile markers especially on the Florida Keys, there are no mile markers on the maps or indeed toll points. Better use of more colours would help and page overlap would make the map easier to follow.
I am surprised that in a country so rich in the culture of road travel, there are not better maps available. I have checked out Rand McNally (having also bought their excellent Florida sheet map) but their state atlas doesn't get a great review - lack of page overlap there also annoyed the reviewer.

Format: Paperback
I started with the NY DeLorme and was impressed with the accuracy of the maps. One road that was not on any map was on DeLormes, and two roads that I did not know about were there. I have worn out 2 NY and have given 3 to friends/family.
I used to collect county maps for my Sunday drives but the problem was the inconsistency in quality and the discontinuity in road names and the constant change in scale not to mention the advertising etc. that was distracting. I also use gov't topo maps for my expeditions.
DeLorme solves the problems and gives even more. The maps overlap and DeLorme refers you to the next map (page number) intrastate and I wish they would also do it interstate (VA-WV) is a good example. It flows well going West to East or vice versa then the page references are especially helpful going North-South.
The special features such as Lighthouses, Bicycling and Habitats are worth their weight in gold. I find the standard ones DeLorme includes such as lists of state and national land, hunting etc. are very useful. I have seen all but one Chesapeake Bay lighthouse and it just would not have happened if I had to search out the info myself. Likewise, I would not have ridden most of the bicycle routes if the information was not easily accessible. The list of Unique Natural Features was especially good too.
This is a must for someone just moving into an area. It saved me years of picking up on my areas of interest.

Whenever I travel to the U.S. I buy the relevant DeLorme map as its the only one I can find that gives all the detail I need. Ask someone in America for a road map and they will proudly wave a 25 miles to the inch map. What I want is something on a larger scale and Delorme have it!! Every trail, every track, every wilderness, camp, lake, mountain and river, and a great gazateer of National Parks, tourist attractions, campsites etc. OK its large but if your a car traveller it doesnt matter. The only problem is getting it into my suitcase!! Well done DeLorme your the nearest thing to Ordnance Survey in the UK

An excellent map with lots of detail and information on it.
Down side is it rather large and difficult to stay open ..would be better with a spiral spine so it would stay open on a page.
Not practical to carry due to size.
Detail of towns and distances useful .

I already had a California Delorme so i knew that these atlases are very detailed and ideal for the US traveller. I don't think there's a product to rival these in the US. Very nice to use and just pore over on the sofa!

Having been to the US on numerous occasions on touring holidays I found this maop to be the best I have ever used and will from now on get them for all the states visited.
The page size is a bit large if Im honest - not for putting in your handbag for sure!
But the mapping, information included and scale make the maps the easiest to use I have come across. Maps of the US are not the easiest to use I think and the scaling and tendency to use of diagramatic representation a trial but these are great. I suspect diagramatic maps are Ok for urban areas but for driving in the Rockies this was fab.

This is the most comprehensive and detailed map of any country I have ever seen. Appears to show every City, Town, Village and Hamlet in the State.

I have many Delorme stat maps and find them good with just enough detail in the cities to get through. but not here. Arizona is a pretty empty state apart from the cities. So you would expect a good city map. I did I expected at least one page for Phoenix and its various cities. No all are crowded into one corner of one page. That would be fine if just using inter states to get around the city. Don't think this one is going to help you drive from the airport to your hotel then to sites in the cities.
