If you are looking at this chances are you are tired of your battery running out and being left with no music to listen to and so the idea of an mp3 player that you just wind up to continue to listen to sounds like a great idea - right?

Well it is and it isn't ...

POSITIVES

Running costs potentially £0

Music anywhere, anytime without having to carry around spare batteries or a charging device

Can top up charge on mobile phone

Built like a tank, can't see the headphone socket connection coming loose (resulting in that annoying crackling every time you move) or the unit getting cracked.

The default sound setting provides rich sound quality.

Good for building up muscle tone in lower arm with all that winding.

It can be charged via usb port if you can't be bothered winding it up. Lasts for around 4 hours fully charged.

Earphones supplied are a comfortable fit and are of decent quality.

NEGATIVES

There is a neck strap which would be ok if you are sitting but not so much if you are active.

It is chunky and quite weighty and creates a bit of a bulge in your pockets. I had to remove the neck strap connector as it kept digging into my leg.

There is no belt clasp so it has to be hung from your neck or stuffed in your pocket.

The navigation is abysmal:

There is of course no display so you have to listen to know roughly whereabouts you are in your playlist.

It takes around 3 secs to skip to the next track. The built in fader effect doesn't help matters any ...

The player I have gets reported by Explorer as being 4Gb.

well it has just arrived i transfered some music files wma type into the verio and spent a minute winding it up great it works well as an mp3 player and a torch ,then i tried to charge a mobile phone up i only spent about two minutes winding before i got bored with that so i do not think it is very good as a mobile phone charger but maybe you are not ment to let the phone go flat my phone was on two bars i think it is just designed to not let it go any further ie one bar. on the whole a great price £10pounds a good mp3 player and torch (back up torch for hiking!) and to agree with the other review that is does always start on the music track but you can wind up charge it while listening music ok

I bought this item to take with me on a 3 week long charity event in Kenya. It seemed perfect for my nees, cheap, simple, and small! When it arrived it looked perfect too! All my 140 songs for the trip fitted on, and I was rather pleased.
I disconnected from my computer and plugged in my headphones, my music started to play! FANTASTIC! ..... No! For all of 3 seconds my music played and then, static! Nothing but static. I read the manual, reset the player, uploaded my files again, turned it on.... I tried everything. Alas, I had no success, just the sweet sound of static in my ears and no music for my trip to Kenya in just 4 days! I am sorely disappointed.

If you think this is a cheap iPod you will be disappointed. But if, like me, you want the luxury of music without using electricity (in my case on a boat) then this is fantastic. If you like the eco feature that it is clockwork (as I do) then better still. It is the size of a cigarette packet so you can grip it to wind it. It plugs into your laptop and is recognised as a USB device so you can drag and drop playlists. It doesn't have a display but then the memory is small so I keep only about twenty tracks on it at a time. In fact it has changed the way I consume music. I used to use my iPod as a permanent library and only listened to a small percentage of what was on it. With this I compile a fresh playlist every few days. I treat it like a radio programme. I only half-know what is coming next. The controls are simple to use. You can jump back or forward track by track. Volume control is good. There is no tone control (equalisation) but it has a warm rich sound. I like it so much that at this price (£10) I've bought ten of 'em.

i bought this for a future hiking trip, must say im not to impressed with it. the torch works fine very bright havent tried the mp3 player yet but the main reason i bought it was for the phone charging option. what you get in the box was not what i expected all you get is one lead for a phone(not sure which phone looks like an old nokia type) one usb lead, a pair of head phones , a neck band/wrist band and a mini cd with drivers on.

bit of a waste of money

i am very pleased with this wind up mp3 player and the torch is good as well ,you have to be careful when copying music files to the device and if you download the wrong file it will stop working and you have to format the mp3 player to get it to work.but aside from that the lights will flash or tell you when you have to wind it again before it will stop all in all i am very pleased and a great price
