Product Description

Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi - one of the maestro's most popular operas of all time. The story of the Duke of Mantua's court jester Rigoletto made Verdi the best paid composer worldwide. The aria "La donna è mobile" may well be the most famous opera piece ever! The recording at hand is one of the finest ever made: The Scala at Milan, 1955, featuring Tito Gobbi (Rigoletto) and Maria Callas (Gilda)!!! A glorious musical moment!
2CD, complete recording, appr. 144 Min.

As a relative newcomer to the world of Opera i have been attempting to get acquianted with the classics of the genre, and Rigoletto is one of the first i have chosen. With one of the most recognisable tunes in the opera canon as the backbone of the 3rd act i found this to make the piece accessable and enjoyable.
The rocording is of excellent clarity, and the performances are first rate as you would expect from the La Scala operahouse. I think this makes a very good introduction into the world of classical opera, and i would happily recommend it to both those who just want background music whilst they are busy and those who wish to concentrate fully upon it.
