Product Description

Egypt and Ethiopia are at war. Radames is appointed commander of the Egyptian forces by the King, whose daughter, Amneris, loves Radames. It is in fact Amneris' Ethiopian slave Aida whom Radames loves. Ramades wins the war against the Ethiopians, capturing Aida's father Amonasro in the process. On his return to Egypt he faces a choice between marrying Amneris or betraying his country through his love for Aida. The orchestra and chorus of the Royal Opera House are conducted by Edward Downes. The singers include Cheryl Studer, Luciana D'Intino, Dennis O'Neill, Robert Lloyd and John Marsden.

4.0 out of 5 stars Aida and Company 17 July 2011
I was just checking the year of production after watching this opera so.....I watched it on CNBC via Virgin Media. Good production; well lit although at Royal Opera House but the sound dipped a couple of times, just for a moment. Good costumes and an excellent ballet sequence of dancing soldiers. I found the two female singers similar to look at which was a little confusing and thought Cheryl Studer was not singing her best as she seemed to struggle at times. Nevertheless I enjoyed the show but when I heard the announcer say that Aida and her lover were buried alive I gave up and hope it was not a true story. I had only seen an amateur production of Aida so it was good to see it properly done, although the amateur opera was good too.

Watch these programmes on tv if you can then buy a copy if you enjoyed it. CNBC show them every Sunday afternoon but it is a business channel the rest of the week.
