Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The advent of Blu-ray technology has led to the introduction of high capacity storage discs to meet the demand cause by the rapid growth of high definition television (HDTV). Blu-ray discs get their name from blue laser technology. The shorter wavelength of the laser is the reason it is blue in colour. The blue laser has a wavelength of 405nm compared with the wavelength of 650nm for DVD which utilises red laser technology. The benefit of having a blue laser with a shorter wavelength means it is possible to write smaller data pits and therefore vastly increase the amount of data on the disc. Blu-ray discs offer 3 to 5 times the storage capacity of a standard recordable DVD disc, enabling the recording, rewriting and playback of high definition video (HD). For those looking for the performance and stability of Blu-Ray Recordable media, but who want the flexibility to add to or overwrite their video, music or data, Blu-Ray Re-Writable discs are the solution. Designed to store 25GB of HD video and audio files, BD-RE discs can handle up to 1080p resolution videos and multiple audio formats. All Verbatim BD-RE media feature HardCoat to protect against scratches, fingerprints and dust build-up, reducing playback and recording errors. Compatible with standard BD-R hardware and recorders from leading manufacturers, these discs are ideal for backing-up video and music collections.

Since its foundation Verbatim has been at the forefront of the evolution in data storage technology. Today Verbatim remains one of the most recognizable names in the data storage industry. Customer-driven, Verbatim is known for adding considerable product value - above and beyond its competitors - to established media technology. Along with its technological innovations, Verbatim is recognized universally for its superior manufacturing practices. This commitment to quality translates into consistent product performance and reliability.

Great disks and arrived quickly (thanks Amazon). Used in Panny Blu-Ray recorder to transfer HD content from HDD to disk. Worked faultlessly and quickly too - ran at x2 throughout meaning it was full in about 20mins. Highly recommend

Have currently only used 2 of the 5 discs, both of which I have used at least 4 times whilst experimenting with an AVCHD video project.

The discs would appear to be up to Verbatim's usual high standard. The problems seem to relate to software. Using Adobe CS5 Encore for burning the final video will not play on my Panasonic domestic Blu-ray player. Burning with Nero the disc plays everytime. Only time will tell how well they archive. I've just purchased a cake of 10 Panasonic -R discs which claim to have an achive life of 50 years. Shame I won't be around to prove them right or wrong

I bought this item (5 pack) last year and agree that they were perfect if rather slow (very slow). Re-recorded many times without any problems and brilliant resolution. Based on this I bought another pack two weeks ago, found they had changed, full face writeable area, no big deal. However I now find my Philips 3D blu-ray player will not read these disks while perfectly happy with the old ones, don't know why yet.

Update 12th Oct 2012. I have now tried the whole pack of 5 after extensive head cleaning of the writer and my virtually new Philips BDP5200 3D player. After many write/erase/format cycles only one of the 5 works and not all of the time, two others work occasionally and the other two not at all. I can only assume that they have changed the coating and are now less sensitive than before, must be a recent change, or I have been very unlucky and have a bad batch.

Being someone who was one of the first people in the UK to buy a CD-writer (at considerable expense at the time), I have moved with technology as, but not necessarily as soon as, new products become available. It had taken some time for me to be convinced that I had a personal need for blu-ray but having had several packages that could not fit on a DVD or even a dual-layer DVD prompted the change. Curiously, there is little price differential between Blu-ray disks and dual layer DVDs and, in some instances, the latter is strangely the more expensive!

There are known compatability issues between some drives and certain media, hence the wild mixture of comments ranging between rubbish and excellent for either hardware or media, most of which can be attributed to a mismatch. Change the media and the drive becomes more relaible. Getting the information is not easy and can be costly if you get it wrong. LG drives are generally regarded as amongst the most forgiving.

As blu-ray media is relatively expensive, producing coasters (wasted disks) is something to be avoided when possible. Hence the need for B-RE rewritables. Although more expensive than the normal B-R, they can be re-used and cause no wastage in those situations where I have some doubt about the quality of content etc. Although it takes a little longer, I can then copy from B-RE to B-R once I know that the compilation was successful.

Found to be 100% reliable so far, some disks have so far been re-used about 20-25 times without a single problem yet. Therefore the product is fully recommended!

UPDATE @ 3/2012

Unlike some other Verbatim media that is reportedly sub-par or perhaps fakes, these are the real deal.

Excellent value for this five disc pack of BD-RE's. Usual Verbatim quality. No issues with read or write or erase. Only thing I found with these particular discs, which unlike TDK BD-RE's, is that I have had to reformat the disc everytime the disc is erased, which although it doesn't take long, can be a little annoying. This doesn't happen at all with the TDK BD-RE's. However, this hasn't spoilt my opinion of these Verbatim discs, it is just a point to bear in mind. Another little point is the burn speed. The TDK seems to burn much quicker than these Verbatim's, even though both are rated as 2X speed, and displayed as such. Could it be down to disc composition, I wonder. Well, for the price, I really can't fault them, certainly much cheaper than the TDK versions. And a very impressive delivery schedule, even with Super Saver.

An excellent product. All disks have been put through their paces (hammered in fact) and all performed flawlessly - which is more than can be said for some of the big name competition.
