Having purchased the DVD film: "The Pelican Brief", which comes on a double sided (RAM) disc, and since my DVD recorder only gives me 218 mins @ Standard play on a Dual Layer disc, which is non re-writable, I wondered if such disks were available as blanks.
Low, and behold, I ordered this item, expecting to receive 5 RAM discs, each in a protective `Jewel case'. However, there is no `Jewel case, simply a thin, flimsy plastic slip cover, containing a caddy with the disc in.
Having managed to extract it, I popped it in my compatible DVD recorder, it formatted OK.
Since the consumer, in respect of their non-caddy DVD recorder, needs to have a non-caddy enclosed disk, then why are these discs only available in a caddy, and not in: A) Protective `Jewel cases'. Or B) On a spindle?
NB. Single sided discs, have their recordable side, stacked on top of the printed side of the disc below them, so, if there is a concern of the second, recorded side becoming scratched, then simply put a thin plastic film between each disc, which would cost less than the plastic caddy per disc.
