Product Description

CD Description

This is a band who transcend categories and genres, who sample the music from past and present and stir together in a loud, proud mix, guarenteeing a very bright future.

From the Label

The first album from the band who have transcended categories and genres, sampled the music from past and present and stirred it together in a loud, proud mix that's taken them to the position of one of Scotland's top live bands.

Wild crossover music played on fiddle (Angus Grant), banjo (Garry Finlayson), mandolin (Iain MacLeod), guitar (Malcolm Crosbie), bass (Conrad Ivitsky) drums and percussion (James Mackintosh).

As a born & bred Scot, I've always had a soft spot for a good ceilidh - but this is serious ceilidh on speed! A raucous mix of traditional melodies with thumping percussion, all played with a furious energy which will leave you feeling uplifted, exhausted and with a grin from ear to ear! Not perhaps as polished as "A Whisky Kiss" but a definite BUY recommendation nonetheless.

Unusual style of music - percussion driven with fiddle and mandolin fighting for supremacy in some tunes. The drum sound is full with some really interesting processing giving a clean, crisp twist and a danceable beat to the Celtic reels. Having now seen these guys live I know that they enjoy playing, and have a tremendous sense of fun. Buy it. You will never stop playing it!

Although Shooglenifty have now established themselves as a cult icon of modern scottish folk, this, being their first album, contains a couple of classics but is rough and not well produced.

Get a Whisky Kiss or Solar Sheeres instead.
