This album seems to be regarded as the most throwaway MF Doom album, I'm not sure why though because despite it's short length it's just as good as the first Victor Vaughn album if not better. Back End and Fall back start the album off with some seriously warped beats that make some of the stuff on VV1 sound tame by comparison, Dope Skill is also amazing with a manic beat based around a very short repeated sample of some old soul loop and Doom spitting some intense lyrics. Ode To Road Rage and Bloody Chain are slower, more brooding tracks that sound eerie as hell... The production on this album is futuristic but also oldskool sounding, and totally original, not to mention MF Doom doesn't sound like any other rapper out there. Also the skits, with familiar snatches of old sci-fi/horror dialogue, hold everything together. If pushed I would even say this is my favourite MF Doom release since Operation Doomsday, I'm looking forward to VV3 if there ever is one. 5 stars

Having heard a lot of criticism of this album I felt like posting a review to do some justice to what is honestly a gem of an album.

Ive read comments to the such of even Doom himself saying that maybe this is his weakest effort so far...but I just totally dis-agree, Venomous Villain is a dark moody sombre but lyrically deadly album full of fantastic experimental beats and thick atmosphere.

From the very start in contrast to the intro of its predecessor we get a shadowy gloomy conversation introducing our Villain of the piece which is the cue for the album to slowly build a progressive dark tune to a nerve racking crest and breakout of with the gut dropping 'Back End' the flow continues into the beatswitching 'Fall Back/Titty Fat' and the stage is set.

More brilliant rhymes, no choruses, limited guests (Although theres always room for Kool Keith on the incredible original Doper Skiller)and some brilliant production in the same veign of the first album with a little more of a tilt on originality. Dooms rhyming seems even more sombre and unsettled than on Venomous and the vehicular twists of 'Ode To Road Rage' are simply Doom at his brilliant dominating best.

For me this is far from an average album it is right up there with the best Doom has released and some of the best tracks I have heard in years reside within its case. I actually found this more of a thrill than his latest offering in Born This Way but that could be considered a subjective point.

If you are a Doom fan and you do not already own this.......WHY NOT!!

Don't know why people slate this album, its Doom's best in my opinion. Maybe because it doesnt have any of his smooth groove style ones (eg Fastlane, Rhymes Like Dimes, Get Bent, although these are also great), this is darker and there are some Squarepusher-style electronica influences in terms of cutting up sounds.

I'm a huge MF Doom fan, particularly the previous Vaugn album, but i'm afraid to say that the production on this album is terrible, every trackj sounds like a bad Mike Ladd track, and Mike Ladd isn't even that great, at just over 30 mins it is also pretty short, but i doubt you'd be hollering for more when this finishes. The only plus point is that as always Doom has the skills on the mic, but there are so many better examples than this that the only reason for buying this would be for the sake of completing a collection. Still Doom is that good that i've still given this a 3
