Pure Needlelace, with brides and bars for connectors rather than tapes is a dying art with several different types of lace falling into the category of pure needlelace. Venetian Gros Point Lace is a needlelace that features raised elements that make the lace look like a carving of ivory.
The book Venetian Gros Point lace does a great job of providing instructions, a stitch glossary, a history of the art with examples, and limited patterns to try the new skill learned. The stitches and the patterns are illustrated with hand drawings that are more amateur than professional but the examples, stitches and patterns are clear and easily followed for all of that. I love this type of lace and think it would be well translated to boleros, jackets and dresses as well as trims and cannot wait to try a full project using the skills I learned from the book. A wonderful book that belongs in the collection of any serious lacemaker or collector. Recommended.
