Venetia - A Supernatural thriller set in Venice [Kindle Edition]

There is so much to enjoy about this book. There is the story which moves along at a cracking pace, keeping your interest from page to page right to the end. The real and the supernaturals worlds are woven together with great skill. The language is clear and dotted with original and beautiful phrases, highly visual - I saw everything as if in a film - full of colour, light and dark. The characters are varied and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of Venice - not only could I see it - I could hear footsteps echoing around the maze of streets and canals and feel the increasing cold and damp as winter approached.

It's a book that will appeal to a wide range of readers, not just fans of the supernatural, because it tells the ancient story of the struggle between good and evil.

I highly recommend it.

I had high hopes about this book after reading the reviews but found it dissapointing.I love a good thriller and the idea behind this book was good but it lacked punch and excitement,i read on waiting for the twist in the tale but it never happened.

I thoroughly enjoyed this especially as I started it in La Serenissima and so could identify with many of the locations.
I would try another book by this author - not classic literature by any means but a good holiday read.

One of the most atmospheric books I have ever read. I love Venice and its feeling of mystery. Didn't disappoint.

Good Points

I loved the start of the story, I was hooked in immediately. The author left me just enough titbits to wonder straight away what on Earth could be going on! I loved that the story flitted between two timelines as well, the prologue set in 1508, and the present day set in 2011. The writing was fluid and clever, weaving in the supernatural elements of the story so cunningly, you never knew it was there until it jumped up on you. The descriptions were vivid and crisp, but not overly poetic. The characters were well-described and rounded out, and the main characters were very believable. And on top of all this, the supernatural elements were blended in perfectly, not gory or too fast, but enough that you got a little chill as you were reading.

Bad Points

The only minor bad point I would bring up , would be that the prologue started off a little choppy. It eased out further into the novel, and it wasn't enough to put me off reading, but at the same time it disrupted the early reading flow a little.

Overall

This was an excellent supernatural thriller with elements of archaeology and religion giving it a dramatic feel. It was a great read, and I couldn't put it down until I had finished the last page! I loved that throughout the whole book I was questioning everything and everyone, trying to work out what was going on with every twist and turn. There were scandals and horrors as more and more of the story was revealed, and I couldn't wait to turn every page to find out what else would happen. I loved this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read about the supernatural, but also wants an exciting thriller with twists and turns that will you gasp in shock at time.

Venetia is a great book for those who are fans of the supernatural. The author's descriptive writing style unfolds the plot in a unique way that captivates the reader's interest through out the book! I found myself sympathising with the characters, whilst sharing their agony and anguish.
I would highly recommend Venetia to anyone who is interested in the paranormal/supernatural genre.

An excellent read it starts with the prologue set in 1508 when the murder of a young girl takes place, the tale then starts in 2011 with a husband and wife team searching for historical objects in the Venetian lagoon. For a large proportion of the book I thought the author's description of "supernatural thriller" was a misnomer as it was about the archaeology and bringing up the daughter "Venetia" in Venice. It is a very good piece of descriptive writing and brings Venice to life with all the bridges and narrow streets. It also shows some of the problems of going to school in a country where you do not speak the language. However I was wrong and everything is slowly developing so that the supernatural element is slowly woven into the story and the tension builds. It is difficult to say more without giving away the plot but for me the story is more about the atmosphere it invokes rather than plot and it is an extremely good read.
